Optus and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announced a strengthened partnership to deploy high-performance antennas designed to enhance the coverage, capacity, and energy efficiency of Optus’ 5G network.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will deliver Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) solutions tailored to Optus’ operational needs, building on the companies’ long-standing collaboration – helping to boost coverage and capacity for customers while supporting Optus’ sustainability goals.
The advanced EAS antenna portfolio will bring a variety of benefits to Optus customers in the areas the antennas are rolled out:
- Better performance in more places – Whether you’re streaming on the go, joining a video call, or gaming with friends, you’ll enjoy more consistent 5G coverage and speed.
- Stronger indoor and outdoor signals – The new antennas will enhance connectivity even in busy city areas or deep inside buildings.
- Enhanced network energy efficiency – These high-efficiency antennas help Optus reduce energy usage while maintaining high network performance, aligning with its sustainability goals.
- Future-ready 5G experience – As data demands grow, this upgrade will help keep the Optus network responsive, reliable, and ready for tomorrow’s digital needs.
Rigorous field trials confirmed the superior performance of Ericsson’s antenna technology compared to existing solutions, demonstrating its ability to maintain high network performance at lower power output. As mobile connectivity demands continue to grow, the introduction of the Ericsson advanced antenna technology will be crucial in ensuring a high-performing, energy-efficient and sustainable network that meets the evolving needs of Australian consumers and businesses.
Ludvig Landgren, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand says, “This agreement further extends our strong collaboration with Optus in delivering high-performing, energy-efficient solutions that support Australia’s 5G evolution. By leveraging our latest innovations, we are helping Optus continue to deliver an outstanding customer experience while advancing its sustainability goals.”
Kent Wu Vice President, Network Strategy & Architecture, says: “Our ongoing collaboration and innovation with Ericsson allows us to bring the latest advancements in 5G technology to our customers. The performance improvements demonstrated during field trials confirm that Ericsson’s antennas will provide Optus with greater network efficiency, improved spectral utilisation, and long-term energy savings. This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering superior connectivity experience while continuing to enhance the sustainability of our network operations.”
