With support from state and local leaders, the company celebrated firing up its reliable, super-fast fiber network and donated to a nonprofit organization during ribbon-cutting ceremony
Wake Forest, N.C.– February 24, 2025 – Brightspeed, the nation’s third largest fiber broadband builder focused on empowering more homes with ultrafast, reliable internet, has made it much easier for families and local businesses in Wake Forest and beyond to access multi-gig-speed internet. Joined by N.C. Department of Information Technology Representative Angie Bailey, State Representative Mike Schietzelt, Wake Forest Mayor Vivian A. Jones, community leaders, and local employees, Brightspeed celebrated the official launch of its state-of-the-art, blazing fast internet service today.
“Broadband is more than just connectivity; it’s a gateway to economic growth and opportunity. We appreciate Brightspeed’s partnership and investment in fiber infrastructure here in Wake Forest and across North Carolina to help close the digital divide,” said Angie Bailey, director of the N.C. Department of Information Technology’s Broadband Infrastructure Office.
Brightspeed’s network now reaches nearly 2,000 families and businesses across Wake and Franklin counties. The best part? More high-speed fiber broadband access is coming. By the end of Brightspeed’s build, almost 24,000 locations across the area will be connected.
“Reliable, high-speed internet is essential for all North Carolinians. In today’s digital age, connectivity plays a critical role in education, healthcare, business, and daily life,” said Wake Forest Mayor Vivian A. Jones. “Through Brightspeed’s investment in broadband expansion, we’re ensuring more residents have access to affordable, dependable internet service—empowering them to live, work, and succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.”
North Carolina currently ranks 38th in the nation when it comes to internet coverage, speed, and availability, according to BroadbandNow, with six in ten North Carolina residents unable to purchase a fiber internet plan. This paints a challenging picture for those who need high-speed internet to look for employment, work remotely, complete schoolwork, or access telehealth services.
“High-speed fiber broadband is a game-changer for families and businesses in our community,” said State Representative Mike Schietzelt (NC-35). “Access to reliable internet is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. Brightspeed’s continued investment is a crucial step in ensuring that more North Carolinians, regardless of where they live, have the connectivity they need to thrive.”
Beyond investing in connectivity, Brightspeed is proud to support local nonprofit Communities In Schools – Wake County. The organization provides resources and enhances educational success for students in Wake and Franklin counties, and across the state. During the event, Brightspeed presented a donation of $2,500 to the organization.
