American Tower Completes Interstate Fiber Optic Backbone in Brazil with Infinera’s GX Series

São Paulo, June 5, 2024, 8:00 a.m. ET – American Tower, a global leader in telecommunications infrastructure, announced the completion of a fiber optic backbone connecting São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Bahia and Federal District with Infinera’s GX Series ICE6 800G solution.

The project extends American Tower’s fiber optic network to over 30,000km, reinforcing its position as the premier provider of high capacity, low latency infrastructure to the region’s network operators, internet providers, data centers and 5G providers. Infinera’s solution enables American Tower to provide ultra-high-speed connectivity services between the main states of Brazil with an initial capacity of 800G, delivering superior optical performance with greater range, lower cost and power per bit, and the highest possible spectral efficiency.

“We have one of the most robust backbones in Brazil and the partnership with Infinera has been fundamental in reinforcing our commitment to offering high quality telecommunications infrastructure and promoting the expansion of connectivity to new markets,” said Rodrigo Boccasius, Director of Engineering and Fiber Technology at American Tower in Brazil. “The flexibility and performance of Infinera’s ICE6 platform enabled us to upgrade our network continuously and quickly with the latest 800G technology prepared to keep up with the growing traffic demand and we are already reaping the benefits of offering high-speed services in new markets.”

“American Tower’s national backbone network provides critical infrastructure for service providers and end users across the country. Infinera is proud to power the network with the latest generation of transmission technology. Upgrading the network with Infinera’s industry leading ICE6 solution enables American Tower to meet its customers’ demands quickly and seamlessly,” said Nick Walden, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Infinera.
