SAN DIEGO, CA – Verizon Public Sector is set to demonstrate its latest military innovations at WEST 2024, a highly-attended naval conference and exposition held annually on the West Coast. Verizon will showcase connectivity solutions as well as hardware, including private 5G use cases and mobile robots.

“Verizon has been developing solutions for the U.S. Navy for decades,” said David Rouse, head of Verizon’s defense business. “We continue to innovate in the public sector, creating ultra-reliable and ulta-secure solutions for our military partners. At WEST 2024, we’ll be demonstrating some of the most effective available tools and applications while looking forward to future use cases with great potential.”

Verizon will display one of Verizon Frontline’s Robotic Emergency Dogs (RED), autonomous mobile robots that can help deliver a secure and reliable private 5G network for communication. This deployable mobile asset is designed to provide first responders or military members with connectivity in remote locations and under harsh conditions.

“One of RED’s initial use cases was to help deliver network connectivity to first responders in emergency situations and following natural disasters,” Rouse continued. “This clearly presents transferable applications to military scenarios as well.”

Rouse also discussed how Private 5G solutions are ideal for naval applications because they’re high-capacity, ultra-reliable and low-latency. “Private 5G solutions are also highly customizable, which is especially useful in military scenarios, given how environments can change,” he said.

In 2021, Verizon Public Sector landed a $78 million digital modernization contract with Naval District Washington. The following year, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded Verizon Public Sector with $1 billion in new business, including network modernization of the Pentagon. Last year, Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) with a $15 million task order to deliver voice and data services.
