Deal broadens, expands distribution for Covad’s New Ethernet services
San Jose, Calif. – May 11, 2010 – Covad Communications, a leading national provider of voice and data communications, is offering its Ethernet services through CENX, operator of the world’s first Carrier Ethernet exchange. Covad offers a portfolio of Ethernet services that addresses more than 10 million businesses in 240 metropolitan statistical areas.
The first interconnection is at CENX’s Los Angeles exchange and provides carriers seamless access to Covad’s Ethernet over Copper services, which provide economical last-mile broadband access at speeds ranging from 3 Mbps to 20 Mbps. Covad and CENX anticipate adding more exchange locations nationwide to further broaden carrier access to the Covad footprint.
“Connecting with CENX will broaden Covad’s wholesale distribution channel and make it easier for other carriers to purchase and sell our Ethernet services without compromising our service differentiation,” said Jeff Brown, vice president of Covad Carrier Services. “Covad’s participation in CENX’s Carrier Ethernet exchange demonstrates our commitment to expanding the distribution of our Ethernet services. Key factors in our decision to work with CENX were their expertise, ability to provide contiguous support for QoS applications, and their integrated business and technical services.”
“Covad is an important connection for CENX and our membership: enables significant revenue and cost-savings opportunities for both Covad and all of our Carrier Ethernet exchange members,” said Nan Chen, chief executive officer for CENX. “CENX’s Carrier Ethernet exchanges are the world’s first operational service-level interconnects and have rapidly become the new meeting point for the high-growth Ethernet industry. By leveraging several unique technical innovations and our years of Ethernet expertise, CENX exchanges address the key operational and business challenges faced by our service provider members.”
Covad provides a comprehensive portfolio of Ethernet access services designed to give partners the ability to answer the growing demand for Ethernet service without additional build-outs. Covad’s vast Ethernet footprint is delivered out of 4,000 central offices and simplifies the “off-net” buying process and ensures faster time to market.
Covad Ethernet services are offered with integrated QoS and CoS options, giving partners great flexibility in optimizing network performance for a wide variety of voice, data and video applications. Partners can also combine Covad Ethernet products with Covad’s value added services such as MPLS VPNs to gain new customers and upsell their existing customers.
