ADVA Optical Networking Technology Provides Foundation for Metro, Romania-Wide and International Networks, scaling up to 100Gbit/s
ADVA Optical Networking today announced that Romtelecom has selected the ADVA FSP 3000 Agile Core transport solution to enable multiple critical networks in Romania, including several county-wide rings, a nationwide network throughout the country and an international link connecting Romania and Germany. After an active tendering process, Romtelecom selected the FSP 3000 to enable all three infrastructures. The carrier chose the FSP 3000 because of the platform’s unique scalability and ability to support the service provider’s diverse application needs, including Romtelecom’s upcoming introduction of 100Gbit/s services.
“We sought to consolidate around a single vendor backed by a complete support offering, and ADVA Optical Networking was the best-suited choice,” said Wolfgang Breuer, chief technical officer at Romtelecom. “Our portfolio is wide and growing. Only ADVA Optical Networking provides a globally proven core solution with such valuable agility to support our service offering. This new FSP 3000-based solution helps us to improve our time-to-market and deliver high-capacity services of any protocol, with a clear and graceful migration to 100Gbit/s in the future.”
In addition to the high-speed offered by the 100Gbit/s capability, the FSP 3000’s DWDM, multi-degree ROADM (reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer), control plane, protection, restoration, end-to-end service provisioning and management functionalities provide Romtelecom with a high degree of network automation, resulting in a core transport architecture that scales flexibly, easily and cost-effectively as the carrier’s network and bandwidth requirements evolve.
Romtelecom offers a broad range of communications services, including wholesale services, managed and dark-fiber leased services, mobile backhaul, data center connectivity, cloud computing and colocation services, among others. To maintain its excellent service offering, the service provider is upgrading its networks to enable the fastest time-to-market for new services.
“Upgrading to new network architectures enables a service provider to expand business and service-innovation infrastructures,” said Christian Unterberger, chief sales and marketing officer with ADVA Optical Networking. “The FSP 3000 has been uniquely engineered to support the cost-efficient provisioning of an ultra-flexible, ultra-fast network. Our Agile Core technology additionally delivers intelligence, network awareness and the ability to easily share network resources. We are delivering to Romtelecom an agile, highly reliable solution for its long-term growth into new markets and services.”
