Level 3 to Build Fiber Connection to Television Studio; Support Increasing Need for More Capacity and for Higher Transfer Speeds
BROOMFIELD, Colo., May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Information Television Network (ITV), a producer of health and wellness broadcast programming based in Florida, to provide bandwidth support for the company’s expanding production needs.
Due to increased viewership and a move to more high-definition programming, bandwidth requirements for ITV have increased dramatically. The production company also requires network service solutions that will improve information transfer speeds and employee productivity, while ensuring network reliability. By building fiber directly into its studio and providing the broadcaster with direct Internet access (DIA) service, Level 3 was not only able to solve ITV’s bandwidth problems, but also ensure greater service reliability. Direct access to Level 3’s breadth of services will also enable ITV to scale its network services to meet future growth.
“As a leading producer of health and wellness programming, ITV is committed to delivering an extensive library of content and programming to our partners. The visual quality and resolution of our content continues to rise, and we require a network partner that is capable of scaling with us to meet our need for increasing amounts of capacity,” said Ed Lerner, executive producer at Information Television Network. “By connecting us directly to their network and providing us with first-rate Internet services, Level 3 has demonstrated that it is more than capable of handling our need for increased bandwidth.”
ITV will be using Level 3’s services to transfer bandwidth-intensive content across its network and to improve employee connectivity. Under the terms of the agreement and in addition to the fiber build into ITV’s studio facility, Level 3 is providing ITV with 20 megabits per second (Mbps) DIA and providing a T1 line for voice services.
“The broadcast industry is experiencing an explosion of high-quality content, and bandwidth demand has become a critical issue in keeping production services operating smoothly,” said Andrew Crouch, president of Sales for Level 3. “Level 3’s network services are designed to provide a comprehensive portfolio of solutions, and we are delighted that ITV is able to use our services and direct connection to our network to improve their production efficiency.”
