Joining Hands with Partners to Promote Industrial Digitalization in Africa

[Johannesburg, South Africa, July 12, 2023] Recently, Huawei held the Eco-Connect Sub-Saharan Africa 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Themed “Leading Digital for New Value Together”, the conference attracted nearly 3,000 Huawei partners and customers from more than 10 countries in the region.

Currently, Huawei has nearly 3,000 partners in the Southern Africa Region, and 90% of its sales are conducted through these partners. During the Eco-Connect event, Huawei announced its plans to invest US$30 million this year in partner capability enhancement, joint brand activities, joint solution innovation, and local talent cultivation in the region.

David Wang, Huawei’s Executive Director of the Board, Chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Managing Board, and President of the Enterprise BG, delivered a keynote at the event. In the speech, he stressed that we are facing an unstoppable digital wave, for which Huawei is working hard to provide the industry’s widest range of leading products and solutions. Huawei is joining hands with partners around the world to help countless industries go digital faster.

Wang emphasized, “We are entering an era of great challenges and even greater opportunities. Let’s join hands to embrace the intelligent world and grow and succeed together.”

Leo Chen, President of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa Region, said in his keynote at the event that if Africa can seize opportunities presented by the mega-trend of digitalization, it will stand a better chance of making leapfrog development. Chen stated that, Huawei has worked alongside partners to deliver many successful projects. Chen explained that Huawei’s partnerships were a critical part of these success stories. He stressed that fairness, transparency, mutual growth, and shared success are the principles of the company’s partner policies.

Philly Mapulane, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, said ICT would play a pivotal role in growing the South African and African economies and Huawei is an important partner. The Premier of Gauteng Province, Panyaza Lesufi, said that Gauteng is committed to becoming the digital hub of South Africa. He said, “We are proud that we have a powerful organisation called Huawei that is walking with us.”

During the conference, eight sub-forums were held on topics including digital government, IP networks, data storage, transportation, cloud, and digital power. In addition, a range of Huawei’s products, solutions, and best practices in industrial digitalization were displayed in a 2,500-square-meter exhibition hall.
