Level 3’s Services Enable Secure Transmission of Critical Healthcare Data, such as Cancer Research, Radiological Images and Compliance Documentation
BROOMFIELD, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced that it has signed an agreement with the Moffitt Cancer Center, a non-profit institution focused on the prevention and cure of cancer, to provide the institute with data and networking solutions, including wavelength services, to support its rising bandwidth demands.
According to the June 2010 Cisco Visual Networking Index, healthcare data is more than doubling every year, and managing such rising volumes of data effectively is critical. Based in Tampa, Fla., Moffitt is one of the largest cancer research hospitals in the U.S. and acts as a repository of research information for other institutions around the country. With an increasing amount of research information and patient data being transferred and stored digitally, Moffitt requires a reliable solution that will enable it to scale its network services to meet rising bandwidth demands.
“Our institution is committed to the prevention and cure of cancer, and Level 3’s network solutions help us in this mission by enabling us to fully utilize cutting-edge technology and digital tools without being hampered by bandwidth limitations,” said Ceil Brown, director of Technology Services at Moffitt. “Level 3’s services will better enable us to expand our breadth of research and efficiently provide the compassionate and effective patient care we strive to deliver on a daily basis.”
Level 3’s data and networking solutions offer a fast, reliable, secure and scalable means for healthcare service providers to meet the ever-increasing bandwidth demands of the healthcare industry. Moffitt will leverage Level 3’s wavelength services to facilitate the daily transfer of information such as cancer research, high-resolution radiological images and compliance documentation. Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 is providing Moffitt with two, one gigabit Ethernet (GigE) wavelength private lines, one 10 GigE wavelength private line and four primary rate interface (PRI) connections.
“The healthcare industry is seeing a rapid increase in the use of bandwidth-intensive data, and Level 3 is dedicated to meeting this rising demand head-on,” said Andrew Crouch, president of Sales for Level 3. “We are delighted that our data and networking solutions are able to support Moffitt’s mission of cancer prevention and treatment by offering a scalable means of managing their rapidly expanding base of critical industry research.”
