Technology’s sustainable development role in focus at STHLM +50 broadcast

Ericsson is partnering with the United Nations Development Programme, the Exponential Climate Roadmap Initiative and the We Don’t Have Time initiative to host the STHLM +50 broadcast of the Exponential Climate Action Summit VI.

The June 3 event at the Space Stockholm in central Stockholm will also be broadcast live online.

The event marks fifty years since Stockholm hosted the first UN conference on the human environment.

Heather Johnson, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility, Ericsson, says: “The 1972 Stockholm Conference was very much seen as a pioneering event. Now, 50 years on there is much more awareness of the critical need for climate action and sustainable solutions.”

Never before have we seen a better time to showcase technology’s role in climate action- from achieving Net Zero in the ICT industry, to decarbonization of industries through use of ICT.”

Johnson adds: “At STHLM+50, Ericsson and partners aim to catalyze the broader adoption of digital solutions by companies and policymakers to enable the needed 50% reduction of carbon emissions globally by 2030.”

Senior Ericsson executives will participate in two STHLM+50 section. Åsa Tamsons, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Technologies and New Businesses, Ericsson will lead Section II: Digital Journey: Past, Present & Future.

Tamsons will deliver a keynote dedicated to the history and future intersections between digitalization and sustainability. Mats Pellbäck Scharp, Head of Sustainability, Ericsson, will chair a resulting panel discussion with participants from Swedish transport company, Einride, and European electricity utility, E.ON.

Börje Ekholm, President and CEO, Ericsson, will launch Section III: The Net Zero Value Chain in ICT. Ekholm will deliver a pre-recorded keynote address highlighting how the accelerated roll-out of 5G and connectivity solutions across countries and industries can play a central role in reducing CO2 emissions and achieving 2030 goals for decarbonization.

This keynote will be followed with a Q&A session with Pernilla Bergmark, Principal Researcher, Ericsson and a panel discussion featuring:

  • Saima Ansari, Senior Partner Manager, Deutsche Telekom
  • Patrik Öhlund, Microsoft
  • Anna Töndevold , Accenture
  • Mats Pellbäck Scharp, Ericsson

The broadcast will also include other prominent stakeholders like:

The event will take place at Space Arena in Stockholm. Seats will be available through registration in advance on the We Don’t Have Time website  or at the venue and the event will be streamed live online at www.wedonthavetime.org/events/sthlm50 .
