Over 225 broadband service providers are rapidly deploying future proof 10G XGS-PON networks with Calix Intelligent Access EDGE, while simplifying network operations and slashing OPEX
SAN JOSE, CA – January 11, 2022 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX, news, filings) today announced over 225 broadband service providers (BSPs) around the world are actively building and deploying Calix XGS-PON networks to deliver high-speed symmetrical 10G services to both residences and businesses. These BSPs are accelerating their fiber deployments with the Intelligent Access EDGE, powered by the Network Innovation Platform (AXOS®), and can now simplify their network operations even further. By integrating Calix Operations Cloud, BSPs can analyze real-time data and employ machine learning to monitor end-to-end network health, predict when maintenance is required, enable workflow automation, and more.
The Network Innovation Platform is the only software-defined access platform with a portfolio of systems that supports a versatile everyPON strategy: GPON, XGS-PON, 10G EPON, and NG-PON2. The E7-2 Intelligent Modular System and the E9-2 Intelligent Edge System are easily scalable, with modular architecture that enables BSPs to seamlessly switch or upgrade technologies. The E3-2 Intelligent PON Node allows BSPs to extend 10G PON deployments to subscribers in rural locations without a remote cabinet—reducing the need for costly and time-consuming construction. This rapidly growing list of broadband service providers are reducing OPEX and simplifying network and subscriber management by incorporating routing and aggregation functions, subscriber management, and service delivery including the traditional OLT function with the Intelligent Access EDGE.
“High-speed fiber networks are rapidly becoming the infrastructure that underpins the entire telecom industry,” said Julie Kunstler, chief analyst at Omdia. “Fiber broadband technologies such as 10G XGS-PON offered by Calix, are providing the foundation that service providers need to meet customer demand and address future broadband requirements for both businesses and residences. 10G XGS-PON is becoming the high-speed fiber technology of choice in many countries, supporting a wide range of operator types, ranging from municipalities to traditional service providers and from electric cooperatives to alternative operators.”
From traditional telcos upgrading their networks to the latest 10G XGS-PON solutions to new BSPs like municipalities and electric cooperatives deploying 10G XGS-PON from the start, Calix is the clear choice. Recent examples include:
- Paul Bunyan Communications keeps critical services operational when fiber lines are cut with the Always On capabilities of the E7-2, E9-2, and Network Innovation Platform. The Minnesota-based BSP is also ensuring its 10G XGS-PON network is future proof to meet subscriber demands for high-bandwidth applications, while exploring the value of Operations Cloud to help the company rapidly and accurately identify fiber cuts to proactively provide better service.
- Atlantic Broadband reduces OPEX and delivers high-speed services that support bandwidth-hungry applications. These include cloud-based gaming, smart home services, and video streaming and conferencing. The Massachusetts-based BSP is achieving this by replacing coaxial-cable with a software defined Calix 10G XGS-PON fiber network powered by the Intelligent Access EDGE portfolio: the AXOS E3-2 and AXOS DPx software connector.
- Mahasksa rapidly upgrades its existing network to 10G XGS-PON and turns up XG801 line cards without any down time. Mahasksa is achieving this with the Always On capabilities of the E7-2, Automated Network Service Provisioning, and the GP1100x GigaPoint®. The Iowa-based BSP is now exciting subscribers with high speeds that support a new generation of cloud-based applications.
- Dickey Rural Networks (ReadiTech) matches the best wire speeds in the state and simplifies network operations to increase efficiency and slash OPEX. The North Dakota-based broadband service provider is achieving this by rapidly overlaying its existing DRN FTTH network with 10G symmetrical XGS-PON delivered by the Intelligent Access EDGE and Network Innovation Platform. Specifically, ReadiTech is leveraging the E7-2, AXOS Services Management Connector (SMx), and AXOS Diagnostics Toolbox.
“Powered by the Network Innovation Platform, the Intelligent Access EDGE continues to redefine how broadband service providers build their networks by dramatically simplifying architectures and operations,” said Michel Langlois, chief technology officer at Calix. “This is why over 225 BSPs are rapidly deploying 10G XGS-PON networks with the Intelligent Access EDGE. As subscriber demand continues to increase, the ability to scale to meet that demand will necessitate maximum versatility across 10G technologies. The Calix end-to-end solution strategy—which spans the access network to the subscriber edge—ensures that BSPs are delivering an unparalleled experience to their subscribers.”
