Prefabricated White Space Module Time Study: Lessons from a High-Density Liquid-Cooled Deployment

Schneider Electric has published a white paper co-authored with Compass Datacenters on how prefabricated IT pods, also called white space modules, speed up high-density, liquid-cooled deployments. The study draws on installations at a Compass campus.

Schneider Electric and Compass developed the pod together for a high-density, liquid-cooled data hall. Each pod took 15 hours to install on site, compared with 75.5 hours for a traditional buildout. That’s an 80% reduction. Most of the time saved comes from building and testing power distribution, cooling piping, containment and cable pathways in the factory while site preparation goes on at the same time.

Installation also got faster with repetition, dropping from 18 to 15 hours between observed deployments. Eric Williams of Compass wrote the paper with Wendy Torell and Melissa Rodriguez of Schneider Electric.
