Push long-haul network reach to 2,400km with new ProLabs coherent transceivers

Network operators can now transmit signals over distances equivalent to travelling from London to Edinburgh five times, thanks to two QSFP-DD transceivers from ProLabs.

Both QSFP-DD 800G ZR LH and QSFP-DD 400G ZR ULH are purpose built for carriers, service-providers, and large-scale backbone networks across the United Kingdom requiring ultra-long-haul coherent transmission. The transceivers enable operators to extend the reach of 400G and 800G networks across national and cross-continental infrastructure without compromising performance.

“We are delighted to have expanded our range of ultra-long-haul transceivers ahead of Connected Britain,” said ProLabs EMEA Sales Director, Stefan Löhmann. “Our solutions will enable national operators to deliver new and efficient long-haul services, making it easier to deliver high-bandwidth connectivity between cities, across countries, and over subsea links.”

With operators continuing to increase network capacity to support growing traffic demands, many are looking to maximise existing long-haul fibre infrastructure, rather than investing in new infrastructure.

While standard 400G solutions support around six repeater hops, the new transceivers are designed to extend coherent optical transmission for up to 30 repeater hops – equating to approximately 2,400km – empowering operators to expand network reach.

“By reducing the need for additional infrastructure while still maintaining long-distance performance, we’re helping operators lower both capital and operational expenditure,” continued Löhmann. “Combined with our commitment to interoperability and availability, these new transceivers provide operators with an open, standards-based alternative to proprietary optical networking solutions.”

Compatible with standard QSFP-DD ports, the transceivers can be deployed within existing platforms, allowing operators to upgrade long-haul networks with minimal changes to existing hardware.

Both products also combine advanced modulation techniques with integrated digital signal processing (DSP) to continuously compensate for laser detuning at each repeater and chromatic dispersion over extended distances.

Every solution in the ProLabs portfolio is backed by lifetime warranty and free global technical support, enabling customers across every stage of deployment.

The 400G and 800G transceivers will be available for the first time at Connected Britain at ProLabs Stand D75. For more information, please visit www.prolabs.com/support/contact
