Traffic generation and design-validation solution with four independent ports delivering up to 6.4T of test capacity for unmatched test flexibility
QUEBEC CITY, September 17, 2026 — EXFO, the communications industry’s test and measurement experts, today announced the LTS-1600 Series, expanding its 1.6T test portfolio with a new traffic generator and design-validation solution engineered to give switch manufacturers, transceiver manufacturers and hyperscalers greater flexibility and control when validating next-generation 1.6T Ethernet interfaces and equipment used to build trusted AI infrastructure. The LTS-1600 Series features a flexible one-to-four-port architecture, for up to 6.4T total test capacity, so customers can start with the capacity and module configuration they need today and expand as validation requirements scale and evolve.
LTS-1600 Series innovations include the ability to:
- Scale from one to four 1.6T test ports as validation requirements grow
- Combine IHS and RHS OSFP test modules on the same platform, and select module positioning for maximum flexibility in test configurations
- Run up to four independent ports simultaneously for parallel validation of 1.6T coherent and non-coherent transceivers and cables, increasing test capacity.
Designing and building 1.6T for the AI era
AI-driven data center growth is accelerating the transition to 1.6T Ethernet as hyperscalers and network equipment manufacturers look for greater bandwidth to support increasingly powerful compute infrastructure. Moving from previous rates to 1.6T brings greater design and validation complexity, with new transceiver architectures and test requirements to address. Designers and engineers also need flexible test configurations that can scale as current 1.6T projects progress, and new design projects emerge.
The LTS-1600 Series addresses these requirements with a scalable platform that supports full-capacity 1.6T Ethernet testing while giving customers greater control over how they configure their test environment. Users can begin with a single test port and expand to as many as four, combine OSFP-IHS and OSFP-RHS interfaces on the same platform, and run independent tests in parallel. This approach helps teams adapt and expand their test capacity with evolving design requirements without changing platforms.
The platform also supports IEEE 802.3dj, full-bandwidth Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic generation, and flexible 2×800G and 8×200G breakout testing, while advanced lab workflows let users fine-tune test setups, personalize web-based dashboards, and automate repetitive workflows using REST APIs.
From electrical-lane testing to live-traffic validation
Together, the LTS-1600 Series and BA-1602 Series broaden EXFO’s 1.6T validation capabilities across the physical and protocol layers. The BA-1602 Series provides unframed BERT and electrical-lane validation for next-generation transceivers and interconnects, while the LTS-1600 Series adds full-bandwidth traffic generation and design validation to verify how those transceivers perform within switches and other network equipment. This complementary approach gives designers and researchers a more complete path to validate 1.6T technologies from electrical-lane performance through live Ethernet traffic.
