Macquarie Telecom, part of Macquarie Technology Group (ASX: MAQ), today announced it has signed a deal with Cleanaway Waste Management (ASX: CWY), Australia’s largest, publicly listed waste management and resource recovery company, for a strategic, large-scale deployment of SD-WAN with Macquarie Telecom.
Drawing on the successful partnership with Netskope – which has delivered an end-to-end SASE framework purpose-built for mid-market and enterprise organisations – Macquarie has been brought on to redesign and deliver a new network infrastructure supporting Cleanaway’s more than 350 sites across Australia.
Cleanaway operates a fleet of more than 6,200 vehicles, and employs more than 9,700 people, many of whom rely on stable connectivity to carry out safety-critical work in the community every day. Upgrading the network infrastructure to ensure all sites have uninterrupted communications and reliable connectivity to essential equipment was vital.
Following a competitive tender process, Cleanaway selected Macquarie Telecom to lead a full network transformation to SD-WAN (software-defined wide area networking) technology from Netskope. Macquarie Telecom adapted its product offering to support this approach, a step Cleanaway says reflected a genuine willingness to partner rather than simply sell a product.

This transformation puts reliable connectivity back at the centre of our work, helping us make faster, better-informed decisions that protect our drivers and the communities we serve every day.”
The new network is designed to do more than restore day-to-day connectivity. It is designed to support stronger video capture and monitoring across sites, helping drivers, waste management professionals, and other frontline workers manage safety incidents such as vehicle fires and issues with household and corporate waste. Data from onboard sensors and cameras feeds into a central control room, supporting real-time decisions that protect drivers and the wider community.
For Cleanaway, the network represents the foundation for future initiatives under its Blueprint 2030 2.0 strategy, including fleet analytics and AI-supported operations, work the company describes as impossible without a reliable network on which to build.
Since the deal was inked, Macquarie Telecom and Cleanaway have moved through the pilot phase at pace. With 25 sites now active, the full rollout across the network is expected by April 2027.

The rollout continues across Cleanaway’s national footprint, with both organisations focused on strengthening connectivity at sites where frontline teams carry out work that matters to communities across the country.
