CITYFIBRE HITS ONE MILLION CONNECTIONS NATIONWIDE

  • Over one million households and businesses are making the most of CityFibre’s network, as digital infrastructure competition brings market-leading speeds, capacity and unbeatable choice to millions of people
  • Further 16,000 connections across mobile operators, enterprises and local authorities, including schools, hospitals and GP surgeries throughout the UK
  • One million primary school leavers to benefit from digital confidence boost, as CityFibre launches “Future Ready Learners” initiative

3 June, 2026, London: CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, today announces it has connected over one million premises to its multi-gig, full fibre network, placing it at the heart of millions of people’s digital lives while supporting growth and innovation across the UK.

Over the past ten years, CityFibre has built full fibre digital infrastructure that now reaches nearly five million premises, delivering multi-gig speeds, unrivalled capacity and much-needed competition.

As the UK’s largest independent wholesale network, CityFibre underpins major household names, including Sky, Vodafone and TalkTalk, alongside dozens of challenger brands, with a commitment to best price, product and service that has helped shake up the broadband market.

Alongside its full fibre broadband services, CityFibre is a provider of critical national infrastructure, trusted by mobile operators, enterprises and local authorities to connect almost 16,000 sites including schools, hospitals and GP surgeries across the UK.

Simon Holden, Chief Executive Officer at CityFibre, said: “We have built a nationwide, full fibre network to be proud of and, today, CityFibre is trusted by millions to power their digital lives. The UK shifted up a gear with the arrival of the altnets and CityFibre continues to challenge the incumbents and deliver the benefits of competition to households, businesses and partners right across the country.”

CityFibre’s one million milestone was welcomed by UK Telecoms Minister, Liz Lloyd:

“This milestone shows the difference government’s pro-investment environment is making, helping bring fast, reliable broadband to homes and businesses in some of the UK’s hardest-to-reach communities.

“Our investment in broadband infrastructure, including through Project Gigabit, is helping companies like CityFibre reach more communities, faster. We’ll continue to remove barriers to rollout and back the investment needed to deliver the digital infrastructure people rely on every day — whether that’s working, learning, running a business or staying connected with friends and family.”

As part of its commitment to connect every part of the community, CityFibre today announced its new digital literacy initiative, with plans to reach over one million primary-aged learners with an expertly designed toolkit that will build confidence, curiosity and foundational digital skills. Working in partnership with education experts, 8billionideas, the initiative will rollout ‘The Tech Toolkit’, a creative, classroom ready resource, to around 5000 schools each year and one million primary school children by 2030.

Simon Holden, Chief Executive Officer of CityFibre, continued: “We are immensely proud of the benefits that CityFibre has brought to our communities and, as we celebrate our one million milestone, we’re supporting the next generation by equipping at least one million primary school leavers with the skills and confidence they need as they learn and explore in a digital world.”

CityFibre’s one million milestone is clear evidence that a decade of policy and regulation to promote network competition is working, creating scaled alternatives and driving real benefits for consumers and the wider UK economy. Over the past ten years, the UK has moved at pace, delivering the fastest full fibre rollout in Europe, while increased infrastructure competition has delivered around 30% faster broadband speeds and 30% lower prices1.
