Segra Completes 600G High-Capacity Network Route from Myrtle Beach, Streamlining International Data Flows for Hyperscalers and Carriers

Segra, one of the nation’s largest independent fiber network companies, has completed a major network expansion connecting the Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station to its inland network, delivering a new 600G route into Charlotte and Raleigh North Carolina.

The newly completed route is designed as a direct inland path from the Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station to Charlotte and Raleigh, with high-capacity network access extending to Atlanta and Ashburn, Virginia. This architecture provides carriers and hyperscalers with a more direct, scalable option for moving international traffic into key U.S. markets.

As subsea investment accelerates, Myrtle Beach is transforming the Southeast from a backhaul destination into a first-class international network ingress region. With multiple subsea systems now landing in the area, Charlotte and Atlanta are emerging as true inland subsea aggregation markets, rather than extensions of Northern Virginia.

Built to support the growing demands of hyperscale and international network providers, the route combines high-capacity optical infrastructure, low-latency performance, and route diversity, offering an alternative to more congested coastal and inland paths.

“This project is about giving carriers and hyperscalers more control over how and where traffic moves,” said Dave Kamphuis, Vice President of Carrier Sales at Segra. “With high-speed 600 Gb/s connectivity and a purpose-built inland route, we’re providing a scalable, high-capacity option that improves resiliency while supporting the continued growth of global data traffic coming through Myrtle Beach.”

The Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station now serves as a gateway for international connectivity between the U.S., South America, and Europe, with direct routes to Argentina, Spain, and Portugal across multiple subsea systems.

Segra’s inland route extends this global connectivity deeper into the U.S., enabling greater flexibility, protection, and scalability for international traffic flows as demand continues to grow.

Technical Highlights:

  • High-Capacity Infrastructure: Supports 600G wavelengths for higher throughput and efficient scaling
  • Route Diversity: A unique inland path from Myrtle Beach to Charlotte and Raleigh reduces reliance on traditional corridors and offers critical diversity for the subsea network community
  • Advanced Technology: Leverages Ciena’s WaveLogic5 Extreme (WL5e) and 6500 Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) platforms, offering high data rates, increased bandwidth, optimized network resources with flexible wavelength options and scalability to meet growing demands
  • High Capacity:4 Tbps of C-band capacity available Day 1, Myrtle Beach to Charlotte and Raleigh
  • Low Latency Design: Optimized routing between Myrtle Beach, Florence, and Charlotte/Raleigh for latency-sensitive applications

The completion of this route follows Segra’s recent launch of SkyVoice, a unified communications platform that brings together voice, collaboration, and customer engagement tools in one environment. Segra will be meeting with partners at International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2026, May 18-21, in National Harbor, Maryland, to discuss how these combined investments are shaping next-generation connectivity.
