Fully-automated fiber infrastructure monitoring will streamline operations and enhance network reliability
QUEBEC CITY, May 13, 2026 — EXFO, the communications industry’s test and measurement experts, today announced that OXG, operator of an open-access wholesale-first fiber infrastructure in Germany, has selected EXFO as its technology partner to integrate Remote Fiber Testing & Monitoring (RFTM) into their operational and monitoring processes, providing real‑time visibility and automated fault detection across the entire infrastructure. OXG was founded in 2023 as a joint venture between Vodafone and Altice to accelerate FTTH deployment across Germany.
“Choosing EXFO was a straightforward decision for us,” said Phillip Burkey, Head of Engineering at OXG. “We were particularly impressed by the technical depth of the solution, the user‑friendly interface and the expertise of the EXFO team. The RFTM platform provides the transparency and automation we need to streamline and simplify operational processes and enables our teams to detect and resolve issues faster—ultimately improving service quality for our customers.”
EXFO RFTM helps operators deploy, audit, activate, and troubleshoot fiber optic networks remotely. By adopting EXFO’s RFTM platform, OXG is laying the foundation for a proactive and fully automated fiber‑infrastructure monitoring strategy. The new solution will significantly reduce network downtime and strengthen overall service reliability.
“RFTM was created to help operators increase efficiency, enhance network stability, and reduce operational costs, and we look forward to working with OXG to deliver those benefits. This partnership speaks to the growing need for intelligent, automated fiber monitoring across the industry,” said Etienne Gagnon, General Manager Test & Measurement at EXFO.
The integration of RFTM marks an important milestone for OXG as the company advances toward a fully digitalized and resilient network‑operation strategy in Germany. OXG has already connected many German households, with the goal of extending connectivity to seven million homes over the next approximately six years.
EXFO will support OXG throughout the deployment process—including solution design, onboarding workshops, and end‑to‑end integration into OXG’s operational ecosystem—and provide ongoing support to ensure long‑term performance, availability, and scalability of the monitoring platform.

About OXG GmbH
OXG Glasfaser GmbH is a joint venture founded in March 2023 by Vodafone and Altice. Both companies hold a 50 percent stake. Since then, OXG has become one of the leading players in the German fiber-optic market. The goal is to deploy several million fiber-optic connections in Germany over the coming years on a self-sustaining basis and without bundling demand. To this end, OXG is investing billions in a future-proof and sustainable infrastructure. Fiber optics not only enable high transmission rates but are also more energy-efficient and produce fewer CO₂ emissions than conventional technologies.
The network provided by OXG follows the open-access principle, offering maximum flexibility in the choice of provider. Vodafone, 1&1, Bahnhof Nätverk, Thüringer Netkom, and Plusnet are already relying on this infrastructure and will ensure future digital connectivity for individuals and businesses with a variety of fiber-optic plans. Further partnerships will follow.
The connection is free for property owners as OXG recoups the expansion costs through fees charged by various internet providers for the subsequent use of the fiber-optic network. As an infrastructure company, OXG does not offer internet plans itself. With this forward-looking business model, OXG is playing a decisive role in driving the nationwide expansion of fiber-optic networks in Germany. For more information, visit www.oxg.de.
