CHR Solutions Introduces WASP to Automate Fiber Splicing and Accelerate Broadband Deployment

AI-driven tool replaces manual, time-intensive splicing workflows
with consistent, splicer-friendly outputs that scale across teams

HOUSTON, TX — April 28, 2026 — CHR Solutions, a leading provider of engineering, cybersecurity, and software solutions for communications service providers (CSPs), today announced Wireline Automated Splicing Program (WASP), an AI-driven automation tool that simplifies and accelerates fiber splicing assignments using GIS-based network data. WASP is a proprietary, rules-based program designed to streamline and standardize the fiber assignment process.  WASP automates fiber assignments and connectivity after network design is complete, helping broadband providers complete a critical step in the engineering workflow faster and with greater consistency.

Fiber splicing assignments have traditionally been a manual, time-intensive process that depends on highly specialized expertise. This often leads to delays, inconsistent outputs, and challenges scaling projects across teams. WASP addresses these challenges by applying rules-based artificial intelligence to GIS-based datasets within Esri Arc Pro. The platform integrates directly with GIS-based network designs and intelligently analyzes full network topology to automatically assign accurate splicing counts across key network components, including Subscribers, Access Points, Splice Cases, FDH Cabinets, and OLTs. It interprets network geometry, automates fiber connections from the source to the end user, and generates splicer-friendly diagrams that guide field teams during construction. Because WASP is architecture-agnostic, it supports Active Ethernet, Centralized Split, and Distributed Split network designs, making it adaptable across a wide range of deployment strategies. This allows work that previously took days to be completed in hours, with consistent, repeatable results.

“The biggest challenge with fiber assignments has always been the manual effort and the level of expertise required,” said Bob Bartz, Executive Vice President of Engineering, CHR Solutions. “With WASP, we are automating that process to deliver consistent, high-quality results in a fraction of the time. It allows teams to move faster, reduce errors, and focus on higher-value work.”

Why Fiber Splicing Is a Bottleneck in Broadband Deployment

As broadband deployment accelerates through BEAD funding and private investment, providers are under pressure to build networks quickly while maintaining quality. At the same time, workforce availability is tightening. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) expects that most states will face shortages of the skilled workers needed to support BEAD implementation.

Fiber splicing assignments are often a bottleneck because they:

  • Require experienced engineers and specialized knowledge
  • Rely on manual, time-intensive workflows
  • Produce inconsistent results across teams

WASP removes this bottleneck by automating fiber assignments using rules-based logic and producing standardized, easy-to-follow outputs that field teams can execute with confidence. By eliminating manual splicing calculations and enforcing consistent engineering rules, WASP reduces human error, shortens turnaround time, and delivers a higher standard of data quality across projects.

How WASP Fits into the Fiber Engineering Workflow

WASP operates after network design is complete and before construction begins.

At this stage, it:

  • Automates fiber assignment across the network
  • Generates splice diagrams and supporting documentation
  • Produces splicer-friendly outputs for field execution

By integrating directly into this workflow, WASP helps providers complete projects faster, maintain consistent engineering standards, and reduce errors during construction. The result is traceable, GIS-validated outputs that give engineering teams, clients, and construction crews greater confidence in the data driving their builds.

It generates automated splice diagrams and documentation that guide field teams, reducing ambiguity and improving execution in the field.

“One of the biggest challenges in fiber splicing is making sure the work is done the same way every time,” said Wade Ziegeldorf, Vice President of Engineering, CHR Solutions. “WASP takes that variability out of the process and produces clear, splicer-friendly diagrams that crews can rely on in the field. That consistency is what allows projects to move faster without sacrificing quality.”

WASP is currently available to CHR Engineering customers.
