V.tal establishes Barranquilla as a digital hub with an ecosystem of connectivity, data centers and interconnection

Company infrastructure integrates submarine cables, an internet exchange point and Tecto data centers to drive digital transformation in Colombia and across the region

Major telecom operators and internet service providers from Colombia and Venezuela, as well as one of the world’s leading digital content companies, are already part of the ecosystem.

Barranquilla, March 12, 2026 – V.tal, the largest neutral digital infrastructure company in the Americas, has established a new digital ecosystem in Barranquilla, Colombia, bringing together international connectivity, network interconnection and Tecto data centers. The project is already attracting telecom operators, internet service providers and global digital content companies, positioning the city as a new regional traffic exchange hub offering low latency and improved performance for digital applications.

The ecosystem was developed based on the company’s digital infrastructure deployed in the city, which integrates a submarine cable landing station (CLS), an international connectivity network, Tecto data centers and an Internet Exchange Point (IXP). This combination of assets enables a neutral interconnection environment that facilitates data exchange between different networks while improving internet efficiency and access to digital services in northern Colombia and neighboring countries.

“Barranquilla has a strategic position in the Caribbean and is becoming an important integration point for different networks and digital markets across the region. By bringing together submarine cables, interconnection capabilities and Tecto data centers, we are creating a robust, efficient, resilient and scalable digital platform. We are also pleased to welcome new customers — telecom operators and internet service providers from Colombia and Venezuela — to our ecosystem, along with one of the leading global digital content companies,” said Fabio Laguado, Director of International Wholesale at V.tal.

One of the key pillars of this ecosystem is the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) operated by PIT Colombia within V.tal’s submarine cable landing station in Barranquilla. The IXP acts as a neutral exchange platform where internet service providers and local networks can exchange traffic directly, reducing data transport costs and improving latency for end users across the region.

V.tal’s infrastructure in Barranquilla also includes the TBAQ1, TBAQ2 and TBAQ3 data centers, operated by Tecto Data Centers. These facilities are integrated with the submarine cable landing station and connected to the international fiber network. The company currently operates an extensive digital infrastructure platform across the Americas, connecting multiple countries and supporting the growth of data traffic driven by artificial intelligence applications, cloud computing and digital services.

The model implemented in Barranquilla replicates the ecosystem previously developed by the company in Fortaleza, Brazil, where the integration of submarine cables, data centers and interconnection points transformed the city into one of Latin America’s leading digital hubs.

The company also plans to implement the same concept in Porto Alegre, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, where it is developing a new digital infrastructure environment combining international connectivity and Tecto data center infrastructure, creating a regional interconnection hub to support growing data demand in southern Brazil.

“We are replicating in different markets a model that has already demonstrated strong impact on the digital development of the regions where we operate. Barranquilla clearly shows how connectivity infrastructure and data centers can enable new digital hubs and accelerate digital transformation across Latin America,” the executive concluded.
