Brisbane, Australia – SUBCO today announced that its Sydney–Melbourne route now spans two geographically independent paths, delivering genuine diversity on Australia’s busiest corridor.
This inter-capital path delivers a unique solution for SUBCO customers, combining subsea and terrestrial connectivity to strengthen resilience across Australia’s challenging geography.
On the Sydney–Perth corridor, Indigo Central and SMAP also provide two entirely separate cable routes with distinct geographic footprints, enabling true east–west diversity. SMAP represents a major uplift in inter-capital capacity and is engineered to operate independently of existing systems, including Indigo.
Together, Indigo Central and SMAP deliver enhanced resilience through separate cable landing stations, submarine line terminal equipment (SLTE) and data centres, providing strong route separation and protection against single-event failure between Sydney and Perth.

SUBCO also announced new data centre access points across Australia’s four major capital cities, expanding connectivity to its domestic and international cable network. The expansion reflects the company’s broader approach to building resilient, diverse infrastructure.

The announcement is the latest in a series of strategic updates from the company, including APX East – a new express hyperscale system connecting Australia and the United States, with Ready for Service (RFS) targeted for Q4 2028.
APX East will be the first subsea system to deliver express connectivity between Australia and the mainland United States without any intermediate landing or regeneration. It will also be the first international cable to land north of Sydney’s existing cable protection zone, further enhancing geographic diversity and network resilience.
