New Report Highlights Communications Sector’s Work to Secure America’s Critical Infrastructure

Washington, D.C. (March 12, 2026) – Today, the Communications Sector Coordinating Council (CSCC) released its 2026 Annual Report, detailing its work to partner with other industry and government stakeholders to reduce risks and build resilience in cyberspace.

As outlined in the Administration’s recently released Cyber Strategy for America, much of the infrastructure deemed critical to U.S. national security is owned and operated by private companies – making fast and effective coordination between the public and private sectors essential to protecting Americans from harm. The CSCC’s report highlights the many lines of effort it supports to enable that coordination, including:

  • Collaboration with government on AI security frameworks
  • Cyber threat evaluation reports and enhanced intelligence sharing between industry and government
  • Industry-led resilience testing
  • Addressing foreign technology-linked risks and working with government to streamline procedures
  • Building tailored guidance for and conducting outreach to small- and mid-sized businesses

“The CSCC has been hard at work over the last year bringing together some of the industry’s top cybersecurity experts to support government action designed to secure our critical communications infrastructure, respond to threats, and protect Americans,” said Robert Mayer, USTelecom SVP for Cybersecurity and Innovation and CSCC Chair. “At a moment when nation-state actors have demonstrated both the intent and capability to target U.S. communications networks, the partnership between government and industry has never mattered more. This report is not just a summary of work – it is a testament to the power of that partnership.”

Beyond reviewing 2025 accomplishments, the report also looks ahead to emerging risks, including AI supply chain security, post-quantum cryptography readiness, and preparations for a contested cyber environment, outlining CSCC’s plans to address each.
