DE-CIX Celebrates First Year in Mexico With 200 Gbps Milestone

Rapid network growth positions DE-CIX Mexico as the country’s second largest Internet Exchange

Mexico City. One year after entering the Mexican market, DE-CIX Mexico has established itself as the country’s second largest Internet Exchange, with close to 30 networks connected to the distributed platform available in 5 data centers in Mexico City and Querétaro. Peak traffic on the Exchange has risen to nearly 200 Gbits per second, a rise of 260% in the first months of 2026. Strong demand has triggered a backbone upgrade between DE-CIX Mexico and DE-CIX Dallas, which is currently being carried out. This connectivity enables Mexican networks and ISPs to access international and global content, gaming networks, and other CDNs that are not yet available locally in the country.

Launched in 2025, DE-CIX Mexico recorded 24 Petabytes (PB) of traffic within its first months of operation. Traffic growth has continued to accelerate in 2026, reflecting rising demand for efficient, local interconnection across Mexico’s digital ecosystem. The IX already has a healthy mix of national and international networks, including ISPs, cloud and content networks, and CDNs.

DE-CIX’s direct connectivity to a diverse range of cloud service providers supports Mexican enterprises, such as Fintech companies, to reach their resources in both public and private environments in a secure, redundant, and highly available way. The operator’s virtual Cloud ROUTER service also enables highly scalable and high performance cloud-to-cloud communication, optimizing and securing multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud scenarios.

“Our first year in Mexico confirms the strong demand for neutral, high-performance interconnection infrastructure,” says Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX. “The rapid traffic growth and rise in connected networks, making DE-CIX Mexico a critical part of the country’s infrastructure, highlight both strong interest from the local peering community and Mexico’s strategic role in North America’s digital future.”

Omar Vega, Sales Manager at DE-CIX Mexico, adds: “In Mexico, operators are prioritizing practical infrastructure improvements, lower latency, better routing control, and stronger resilience between key hubs. Becoming the second largest IX in the country in our first year shows that the community values a neutral and technically robust interconnection platform.”

Today, DE-CIX Mexico has close to 30 networks connected or connecting and provides a neutral, carrier- and data center-neutral platform that enables networks to exchange traffic locally, reduce latency, and improve routing efficiency. The distributed architecture between Mexico City and Queretaro enhances redundancy and resilience for ISPs, carriers, content providers, and cloud service providers operating nationwide. Direct access to DE-CIX Dallas and all DE-CIX locations in the US and globally enables Mexican networks to extend their reach internationally.
