Ericsson, Far EasTone, and OPPO demonstrate AI-driven 5G Standalone ecosystem for differentiated connectivity

Ericsson(NASDAQ: ERIC), Far EasTone, and OPPO announced the successful joint validation of an integrated 5G Standalone (SA) ecosystem across mobile networks, devices, and applications, enabling differentiated connectivity and new B2B2C business models. By combining programmable 5G SA networks, application-level network slicing and on-device AI, the collaboration demonstrates how 5G SA can deliver superior application experiences while enabling performance-based connectivity services. The joint demonstration of the use case will be showcased at Mobile World Congress 2026 at Ericsson’s booth.

Validating performance-based differentiated connectivity at extreme network conditions

Today’s consumer mobile services are primarily offered on a best-effort basis, which can lead to degraded experiences in high-traffic scenarios. According to the research from Ericsson ConsumerLab, more than 40 percent of consumers identify moments when they would opt for guaranteed network performance, and around half of them are willing to pay for it.

The validation was conducted during a 40,000-person concert at Taipei Dome on Far EasTone’s live 5G SA network. In this high-density environment, differentiated connectivity enabled users to maintain reliable, performance-guaranteed experiences—seamless social media sharing, live streaming, and latency-sensitive interactions—even at peak moments.

This capability is enabled through close integration across networks, devices and applications. On-device AI detects real-time in-app user experience degradation and dynamically activates User Equipment Route Selection Policy(URSP)-based application slicing and associated radio resource policy via a layered API architecture, enabling new differentiated services and revenue opportunities for CSPs.

Chee Ching, President of Far EasTone, said: “Far EasTone and Ericsson have been long-standing partners, working closely to continuously enhance the network experience for our users. We are pleased to collaborate with OPPO to validate an innovative differentiated connectivity service in a large-scale concert environment by enabling customized 5G connectivity with lower latency and higher efficiency. We will continue to deliver more advanced and high-quality 5G services for Far EasTone users.”

David Chou, President of Ericsson Taiwan, said: “5G Standalone provides the foundation for differentiated connectivity at scale, enabling guaranteed performance through network slicing and standardized APIs. Looking ahead, we are focused on helping CSPs fully unlock the potential of 5G SA, transforming network performance into commercial services that can be monetized with confidence and drive sustainable long-term growth.”

Ecosystem collaboration driving commercialization and new B2B2C models

The validation demonstrates how ecosystem collaboration can accelerate the commercialization of differentiated connectivity and unlock new B2B2C business opportunities. By enabling in-app, on-demand connectivity upgrades, the ecosystem establishes a scalable collaboration model that shortens time-to-market for performance-based services.

Looking ahead, the model supports application-specific experience metrics tailored to different usage patterns and service requirements. From latency-sensitive gaming and high-resolution live streaming to real-time sharing at large-scale events, AI-driven, on-demand performance upgrades allow users to access high-quality connectivity precisely when needed—reinforcing 5G SA as a platform for scalable, experience-driven services with strong commercial potential.

“This pioneering ecosystem collaboration fully demonstrates the strength of OPPO’s leading AI LinkBoost@5G+ that delivers the differentiated application experience.” said Vincent Liu, CEO of OPPO Taiwan AED. “OPPO is committed to advancing communications through continuous innovation. We are proud to be part of this collaboration, where AI enables real-time, on-demand in-app performance enhancements to deliver a better user experience when it matters most.”

Together, Ericsson, Far EasTone, and OPPO demonstrate technology readiness with a collaboration model to scale differentiated connectivity uptake. By uniting networks, devices, and applications, the collaboration highlights clear commercial potential of SA, enabling communications service providers to monetize performance levels through differentiated services, device makers to unlock hardware and software capabilities, and delivering consistently enhanced performance and experience for users.
