Ericsson´s Cognitive Network Solutions has announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to drive the evolution of autonomous networks using Agentic AI. This collaboration aims to revolutionize how Communication Service Providers (CSPs) manage their networks to maximize efficiency and adapt to new business landscapes.

At the core of this collaboration is a technical exploration to see how the advanced AI capabilities of AWS can be leveraged in the products and solutions that form Ericsson’s Cognitive Network Solutions (CNS) portfolio. This synergy is set to elevate existing network management systems, and by extension the networks themselves, to higher levels of autonomy by introducing intent-based autonomous decision making, as well as Generative AI agents, or Agentic AI. The primary goal is to optimize network performance and service experience while ensuring predictable costs and operational efficiency for telecommunications providers worldwide.
Jean-Christophe Laneri, Vice President and Head of Cognitive Network Solutions at Ericsson says: “This collaboration marks a pivotal milestone in network optimization technology. AWS global infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence (AI), alongside Ericsson’s unique cross-domain telecom experience and insights, will assist communication service providers in adapting to changing business conditions with predictable costs and enhanced operational efficiency.”
Fabio Cerone, General Manager of the EMEA Telco Business Unit at AWS, says: “By working together, AWS and Ericsson will help telecommunications providers automate complex operations, reduce costs, and deliver better experiences for their customers. We are delivering solutions that create business value today while building toward autonomous networks.”
The collaboration announced today will be wide ranging, though will revolve around clear key areas.
Enhancing Network Autonomy: Ericsson’s network optimization applications are available to CSPs as rApps (RAN automation applications). The introduction of rApps—a fresh network management solution—ushers in a new era of Autonomous Networks (AN). By incorporating Agentic AI, these rApps facilitate seamless decision-making processes, allowing for various automated systems to collaborate efficiently and helping CSP’s achieve TMF Autonomous Networks levels 4 and 5. This level of automation can reduce operational expenses significantly, alongside enhancing network performance and user satisfaction.
Developing and deploying Intent-based networks: Intent is a declarative specification of desired outcomes or goals that a network should achieve. It is an abstraction that allows network operators to describe what they want the network to accomplish without needing to specify how to achieve these outcomes in detail.
Exploring and delivering value from Agentic AI: Agentic AI acts as a catalyst in streamlining operations by coordinating actions across different rApps to achieve shared objectives. Agentic AI has the ability to enhance the functionality of intent-based networks. Agentic AI can interpret intents, make informed decisions on how to achieve them, and dynamically adapt network configurations based on real-time data and changing conditions.
Delivering Innovation and Efficiency: This collaboration underscores a shared view of the importance of fostering innovation, driving transformation, and providing flexible, efficient solutions to CSPs. By leveraging the AI prowess of AWS, combined with Ericsson’s telecommunications expertise, significant progress can be made in these fields that can benefit the whole of the communications industry.
This Ericsson and AWS collaboration marks an important milestone in telecommunications technology, promising clear advancements through the addition of new Gen AI and Agentic AI-based functionalities to network management software, enhancing network optimization and making operational activities more efficient. The collaboration to push forward automation in telecoms, with Level 4 and Level 5 autonomous networks as a guiding objective, will deliver results to significantly improve connectivity for CSPs and subscribers around the world and lay the groundwork for networks of the future.
