Tel Aviv, April 23, 2025 – Ethernity Networks (NASDAQ: ENET.L), a leading innovator in PON and networking technology and solutions, is proud to announce the successful integration of its Programmable Remote Optical Line Terminal (OLT) with the latest official release of VOLTHA (version 2.12) from the Linux Foundation Broadband.
This milestone reinforces Ethernity’s commitment to enabling open, disaggregated, and cost-effective broadband access Fiber to the Premises solutions for communication and internet service providers (CSPs/ISPs).
VOLTHA (Virtual OLT Hardware Abstraction), an open-source initiative under the Linux Foundation Broadband, provides CSPs with a multi-vendor, disaggregated broadband access platform. This eliminates vendor lock-in, reduces procurement costs, and streamlines network automation through seamless integration with Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
Ethernity’s Remote OLT integration with VOLTHA enables CSPs to leverage these advantages, offering lower OPEX through cloud-based architecture and SDN automation as well as flexibility to support various ONU types and provisioning models. Furthermore, Ethernity’s built-in, hardware-based Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) function reduces CAPEX by allowing a lightweight software stack and reducing CPU dependency. Ethernity has successfully tested and demonstrated integration with multiple third-party PON ONUs.
Ethernity’s PON software stack offering allows equipment manufacturers to integrate with its Remote OLT at multiple levels, including BAL Stub API Layer, gRPC Layer, Ethernity PON Stack, or an HW SDK Layer for direct device control and management. This flexibility ensures a seamless adoption process for vendors while enabling CSPs to tailor their deployments to specific network requirements.
David Levi, Chief Executive Officer of Ethernity Networks, emphasized that “By providing an open and adaptable integration approach, we empower CSPs and equipment vendors to deploy high-performance, cost-effective broadband solutions without compromising flexibility or vendor independence.”
Ethernity Networks’ successful VOLTHA integration marks a significant step forward in the evolution of open, disaggregated PON solutions. By enabling greater interoperability, reducing costs, and driving innovation, Ethernity is helping CSPs build the future of broadband networks.
