In a first for Brazil, both Internet Exchanges (IXs) will be connected from Day 1, enabling both local and domestic peering while opening access to DE-CIX’s global IX ecosystem – the largest interconnection ecosystem in the world
Sao Paulo, Brazil and New York USA 19 March 2025: DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, today announces the launch of its first IXs in Brazil: DE-CIX Sao Paulo, and DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro. The inauguration took place yesterday evening in the renowned Villaggio JK in Sao Paulo with invited guests from the interconnection industry and representatives from enterprises and organizations in Brazil and beyond. The two new IXs are operated by DE-CIX Brazil, a 100% owned subsidiary of the DE-CIX Group, and are both data center and carrier neutral.
In a first for Brazil, the two IXs will be interconnected from Day 1, enabling not only local “peering”, or network interconnection, but also remote peering both domestically and internationally. DE-CIX Brazil will be integrated into the operator’s global IX ecosystem through connections to DE-CIX’s IXs in New York, Lisbon, Madrid, Frankfurt – the largest IX in Europe – and beyond, employing both south to north and south to south Atlantic connectivity corridors. This will enable connected customers to reach thousands of local, regional, and international networks that together form the largest interconnection ecosystem in the world.
The distributed and neutral IXs are housed in multiple data centers in their respective markets, with DE-CIX Sao Paulo in Elea Data Centers SPO1, Ascenty SP4, and Equinix SP4, and DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro in Elea Data Centers RJO1 and Equinix RJ2. DE-CIX’s new IXs fill a gap in the Brazilian market with their range of SLA-backed enterprise-grade interconnection solutions, as well as increasing redundancy and resiliency options for Brazilian network operators.
