Greene County classrooms and teachers to receive new computers and devices
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — March 13, 2025 — Brightspeed, the nation’s third-largest fiber broadband builder focused on empowering more homes and businesses with ultrafast, reliable internet, announced it has awarded an $18,174 grant to Greene LEAF, the foundation for Greene County Schools, to purchase classroom equipment for elementary and high school classrooms. The equipment includes computers and devices to ensure students and teachers have the state-of-the-art technology to teach and learn in today’s hyper-connected world.
“We are so grateful for the support and cooperation of Brightspeed,” said Suzanne Richey, executive director of Greene LEAF. “The willingness to work with us on this grant to support our students will make a positive difference for many years to come.”
Greene LEAF is a nonprofit organization developed by community leaders to bridge the funding gap for materials and programming not supplied by local government. The organization’s mission is to serve as an advocate for creating a premier educational environment for the students of Greene County through raising funds for literacy programs, arts education and technology initiatives.
“At Brightspeed, we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work — it is an important part of our company culture,” said Lymari Muñoz, marketing manager for Brightspeed’s south region. “As we continue to bring access to our Brightspeed Fiber Internet, we also want to ensure we are uplifting the community through partnerships with other organizations who share our beliefs and commitment to digital equity in our communities.”
Brightspeed made a multi-billion-dollar investment in deploying next-generation, fiber-optic technology to build a more reliable, super-fast broadband internet network that will reach more than four million homes and businesses across its 20-state footprint including tens of thousands of locations in Tennessee. In fact, Brightspeed Fiber Internet access is already available to nearly 14,000 locations in Greene County, with more coming online every day.
In addition to its own investment, Brightspeed has been awarded $6.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for broadband infrastructure expansion to reach even more Tennesseans with its high-speed network. The company continues to pursue state and federal grants to further augment its planned build, including federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program funding.
