Emerging Markets Drive Microwave Transmission Revenue Up 7 Percent in 4Q 2024, According to Dell’Oro Group

Growth Driven by India and EMEA

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – February 27, 2025 – According to a recently published report from Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, security, networks, and data center industries, point-to-point Microwave Transmission equipment revenue grew 7 percent year-over-year in 4Q 2024. This quarter’s growth was due to higher demand in two emerging markets—India and the Middle East/Africa—where wireless is a critical technology for mobile backhaul networks.

“Emerging markets are important for the microwave transmission industry,” stated Jimmy Yu, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group. “It is often these parts of the world where laying fiber is not always the first choice, rather it is the second to wireless technologies such as point-to-point microwave,” added Yu.

Additional highlights from the 4Q 2024 Microwave Transmission & Mobile Backhaul Quarterly Report:

  • The Microwave Transmission market returned to positive year-over-year growth in 4Q 2024 after posting declines in the first three quarters of the year. The fourth quarter year-over-year growth was mainly attributed to higher demand in India and the Middle East/Africa region. Europe also contributed to the increase in fourth quarter market revenue. The respective year-over-year growth rates for these three regions were 145 percent, 9 percent, and 9 percent.
  • For the full year 2024, the Microwave Transmission market contracted two percent. During the year, the top six vendors, with a combined revenue share of 85 percent, were Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, Ceragon, ZTE, and Aviat. Two of these vendors (Aviat and Ceragon) gained market share through acquisitions, and three (Huawei, Nokia, and ZTE) gained market share organically.
  • In 2024, the top vendors in India were Ceragon and Ericsson, with Ceragon holding the majority of the revenue share at over 50 percent.
  • The top vendors in the Middle East and Africa region during 2024 were Huawei and Ericsson, with Huawei holding the dominant share at over 50 percent.
