Building Connections: Brightspeed Bridges Digital Divide and Uplifts Communities Across Pennsylvania

As Brightspeed builds its new, high-speed internet network across the Keystone State, the broadband leader is also making meaningful investments and partnerships in local communities

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — February 13, 2025 — Brightspeed, the nation’s third-largest fiber broadband builder, is celebrating the expansion of its reliable, high-speed fiber network now available to more than 131,000 Pennsylvania homes and businesses and its investment of more than $42,500 to support the communities it serves across the state. The internet provider continues construction of its new, super-fast fiber internet network in and around the state. Once completed, Brightspeed’s network will reach a total of over 190,000 fiber-enabled locations across its Pennsylvania footprint.

“At Brightspeed, we believe that giving back to our communities is an important part of our company culture and business strategy,” says John Mizerak, director of Government Affairs at Brightspeed. “We are committed to supporting and making a positive difference in the communities where we live and work, which is why we are making substantial investments, not only to bridge the digital divide but also to strengthen these communities.”

Empowering Pennsylvania with More Than Just Speed

Put simply, high-speed internet equals opportunity for households and businesses alike, and access to fast, reliable and affordable internet and Wi-Fi will help close the urban–rural digital divide in Pennsylvania. That’s why Brightspeed is building its smart, fiber optics-based network in communities like:

  • Butler, PA: Brightspeed is at work connecting more than 18,000 locations to its network.
  • Chambersburg, PA: Brightspeed’s new fiber will bring access to 18,000 residents and small businesses.
  • Mount Joy, PA: With nearly 6,000 locations already passed with our fiber network, about 4,600 of those are ready for installation and another 2,200 locations are under construction, when construction is complete more than 8,900 locations will have access to Brightspeed’s fiber network.
  • Gettysburg, PA: 5,500 locations already have access to Brightspeed’s fiber network. Nearly 9,000 will have access once the build is completed.
  • Fayetteville, PA and New Oxford, PA: In these communities, more than 7,000 families and businesses will have access to high-speed fiber internet.

Investing in Communities Where We Live and Work

In Pennsylvania, Brightspeed has had the opportunity to support local schools, public spaces and other resources aimed at enhancing the communities. The company’s recent efforts include:

  • A $2,500 donation to Communities in Schools PA, a nonprofit committed to providing resources and enhancing educational success for students across Pennsylvania.
  • A $25,000 sponsorship of the Carlisle Family YMCA in Carlisle, PA to support a non-profit of its choosing and enhance its facility.
  • A $15,000 donation to the Janson Foundation in Columbia, PA to assist in funding the construction of a new park. Brightspeed is also matching donations made until the end of August 2025.
  • Brightspeed has invested $28,000 in four schools across Central Pennsylvania. The internet provider is excited to support the following opportunities at each of the schools:
    • Naming Donegal High School’s softball field in Mount Joy, PA
    • Serving as sponsor of the student parking lot at Elizabethtown High School
    • Naming Columbia High School’s baseball field
    • Naming the student section at Hempfield High School in Mountville, PA
  • Support for the Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce with sponsorships of all its 2025 ribbon-cutting events and sponsorship of its bi-annual Buy Local campaign.
  • Support for the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce and memberships in The Chamber of Gettysburg & Adams County and The Cumberland Valley Business Alliance.

Reaching Even More Locations

As part of a broader, multi-billion-dollar investment, Brightspeed is rapidly expanding its fiber-optic network to reach more than 4 million homes and businesses across 20 states. Additionally, the company is actively pursuing state and federal funding, including BEAD program funding, to accelerate fiber deployment in Pennsylvania and beyond, ensuring communities stay ahead in today’s digital age.
