Third Point of Presence in South Korea will provide enterprises throughout Asia-Pacific with additional high-speed connectivity options
SEOUL – November 26, 2024 – Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, announced today that it has deployed a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Digital Edge SEL1 in Seoul, South Korea. The new PoP is located at 646 Yeoksam-Dong, Seoul 06132, South Korea.
The Tier 3, 3,331 square-meter facility has a total power capacity of 4.8 MW, N+1 power redundancy, N+1 cooling redundancy, controlled access and 24/7 monitoring, a seismic and flood-resistant design, and a 100% uptime SLA. It is located in the Gangnam district of Seoul, on the major subway line of the metro system, and is approximately 55 kilometers from Incheon International Airport.
South Korea is the 14th largest economy in the world and a tech powerhouse. With the world’s fastest internet speeds, it continues to close the tech gap with the United States. The country is a leader in broadband and next-generation mobile communications and there is heavy investment in innovative technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, next-generation networks, and cybersecurity. Seoul is recognized globally as a smart city and is headquarters for Samsung, Hyundai, and LG Electronics.
This PoP is Hurricane Electric’s third location in Seoul and South Korea and will provide the region with improved fault tolerance, load balancing, and congestion management in the delivery of next-generation IP connectivity services.
“Hurricane Electric is excited to expand our global network and services Seoul to better connect customers in South Korea and the entire Asian-Pacific region to networks worldwide,” said Mike Leber, President of Hurricane Electric. “This expansion builds on our commitment to provide exceptional connectivity throughout the world.”
Customers of Digital Edge and in and around Seoul, South Korea have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports. Additionally, customers at the facility can exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s vast global network, which offers over 40,000 BGP sessions with over 10,000 different networks via more than 310 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
