Colt Technology Services expands its network in Sydney Australia

Connects 250+ commercial buildings and more than 20 datacentres in Sydney’s metropolitan area, offering 400 Gbps Metro Connectivity

Tokyo, 28th November 2024 – Colt Technology Services ,the global digital infrastructure company, today announced that it will expand its network in Sydney, Australia with direct network access to approximately 250 commercial buildings and more than 20 datacentres in the city in the fourth quarter of this year. The announcement follows the extension of its business in six Southeast Asian countries announced in June of this year.  With the expansion of its optical network, the company will be able to extend its services to approximately 300 local and global companies with offices in the city of Sydney.

Colt launched its international service to Sydney in 2018, and further optimised its network in August 2022 to provide significantly reduced latency between the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) in Sydney and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to 87 milliseconds, which was considered the fastest in the industry at the time.

Colt had previously relied on OLO partners (Other Licensed Operators) to support local access services in Sydney, but with the news of this expansion, Colt can now provide its service end to end on its digital infrastructure.  This benefits customers in terms of improved lead times for service delivery, better manageability and control over its network for improved customer experience, and more competitive pricing capability. The expansion aims to meet rapidly rising demand for bandwidth, as well as the growing need for on-demand services and network flexibility and businesses with high-bandwidth requirements linked to AI, ML, fintech and Big Data.   Colt will be offering metro connectivity up to 400Gbps, and international connectivity up to 10Gbps.

Colt anticipates that by 2028, around 300 global customers will benefit from the infrastructure.

Commenting on the expansion of the company’s network in Sydney, Buddy Bayer, Chief Operating Officer, Colt Technology Services, said: “With the acquisition of the Lumen Technologies EMEA business in November of last year, we strengthened our position in the global marketplace and expanded our reach to North America through a strategic alliance with Lumen.  In Asia, the B2B network services market in the region is currently forecasted to grow at a five-year average CAGR of 9.80% from 2022 to 2027*, higher than that of Europe (8.41%) and the United States (7.05%).  The expansion of our network in Sydney, strategically positioned in the Pacific region, will support this growth and will give momentum to our Asian strategy.”

Yasutaka Mizutani, President of the Asia Pacific region, said, “We have established a unique position by providing our vertical solution, MarketPrizm, to capital market clients in the stock exchange and financial industry in Hong Kong and Singapore. Based on this expansion into the Sydney metropolitan area, we hope to contribute our network and services to A-end and B-end** customers in the region who are looking to expand their business from Sydney to overseas, or from overseas to Sydney, Australia.”

From 1 December 2024, Colt will start promoting its own network services, such as Dark Fibre, Wave, Ethernet, IP Access, Dedicated Cloud Access, On-Demand, IPVPN, and SD-WAN in the Sydney metropolitan area, and will be ready to deliver services from March, 2025 onwards.

Colt will focus on customer acquisition and service delivery in the area.
