GlobalNet Launches Stockholm-Berlin DWDM Subsea Route

GlobalNet has successfully launched a new 1,200-kilometer DWDM fiber link connecting Stockholm and Berlin, completing its ambitious year-long project to expand the company’s European network infrastructure. The route links Equinix SK1 in Stockholm to Speedbone DC in Berlin via a subsea cable under the Baltic Sea, cutting latency to just 12 milliseconds.

The Stockholm-Berlin link marks company’s final milestone in a broader European project that saw the rapid construction of two fully redundant DWDM ring routes earlier this year: Frankfurt-Stuttgart-Munich-Vienna-Bratislava-Prague and Frankfurt-Berlin-Warsaw-Katowice-Prague. These routes were constructed within a timeframe of just 9 months this year, GlobalNet claims. The ISP has also established key Points of Presence in Prague, Bratislava, Zurich, and most recently, London, further enhancing connectivity and extending its reach throughout the region.

“The new Stockholm-Berlin fiber connection, combined with our completed DWDM rings in Central Europe, significantly strengthens our network and improves service speed and reliability,” said Alex Surkoff, GlobalNet’s Business Development Director. “With capacities up to 400G and complete channel redundancy, our customers can enjoy uninterrupted service, ensuring reliable connectivity at all times.”

Surkoff added that building the Stockholm-Berlin route was no small feat: “The technical and environmental challenges of laying fiber through the Baltic Sea were considerable, but our team overcame them with professionalism and dedication. I want to personally thank everyone involved for their tireless work on this project.”

GlobalNet is already looking ahead to further expansion in 2025 with plans to build a new DWDM route from Bratislava to Sofia via Budapest and Belgrade. This next phase will continue the company’s commitment to providing resilient, high-speed connectivity across Europe.
