TIA Panel Highlights Successful Strategies in Building a Stronger Broadband Workforce to Bridge the Digital Divide

August 20th Webinar features leaders across government, industry and academia discussing best practices in attracting and training broadband workers in rural and geographically diverse communities
Arlington, VA (July 14, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association—the trusted industry association for the connected world—today announced that as part of its ongoing mission to help attract, train and deliver the workforce that will be required to build out America’s communications networks it is hosting a Webinar on Tuesday, August 20 at 2 pm featuring key state, industry and academic speakers.
Panelists will discuss how leaders across government, industry and academia are partnering to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled workers to fill the near 200,000 worker shortage that will be needed to implement major government broadband expansion initiatives such as the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program which is aimed at delivering high speed internet to all Americans by 2030.
Webinar participants will get a practical overview of how states are successfully implementing broadband workforce development programs that align community colleges, workforce agencies, employers, and other partners. In addition, they will learn how broadband leaders can capitalize not just on BEAD but on other public investments to develop the workforce they need, in rural communities, exurban areas, and beyond.
The webinar will feature experts that are deeply involved in workforce development, including:

  • Leandro Garcia, Director, Florida Broadband Office
  • Michael Murphy, Senior Project Manager, Colorado Broadband Office
