The DWDM system provided by the Brazilian manufacturer includes equipment with automatic network reconfiguration and OTDR capabilities to identify faults in optical fibers.
Present throughout the Brazilian state of Roraima, the internet provider InfoRR is expanding its operations to Amazonas state, also in Brazil, with the construction of a new DWDM optical network connecting the capitals of Boa Vista (Roraima state) and Manaus (Amazonas state). The project is being implemented in partnership with 4WNet Telecomunicações, a service provider also in Roraima, and involves the supply of a complete DWDM system from Padtec, with resources for monitoring the physical state of the optical fiber and automatic reconfiguration of the network to add capacity.
In the final stages of implementation, the new network is almost 800 kilometers long and, in addition to the capitals Boa Vista and Manaus, covers six other municipalities in the states of Roraima and Amazonas. The ambitious and high-investment project was named Projeto Rizolmar, in honor of the founder of InfoRR, who passed away in 2021. “My father created InfoRR in 2006 and always sought the most modern in the telecommunications area. Over the years, he expanded the company’s network coverage to the entire capital and other municipalities in the state, including villages and indigenous communities. From a small company with four employees, InfoRR has grown and today employs around 60 direct and indirect employees”, says Ruandson Alves, current director of the company and son of the founder.
He recalls the connectivity difficulties faced by the state of Roraima – and, consequently, internet access. “Placing Roraima on another level of telecommunications has always been one of InfoRR’s main goals,” he emphasizes. “This new network is part of the company’s expansion strategy and the partnership with Padtec is in line with our goal of expanding the market by providing high-quality internet services to all of our customers,” he adds.
To this end, InfoRR contracted with Padtec to implement a DWDM system with ROADM (reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer) on the LightPad i6400G platform, which provides an automatic mechanism for adding capacity to networks in a flexible manner and without the need to interrupt service to perform the upgrade. The solution provided also includes dual TMD400G transponders with a capacity of 400 Gb/s, optical switches and OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) cards for continuous monitoring and rapid identification of faults in optical fibers throughout the route.
“With the combination of OTDR and ROADM intelligence and automation resources in a complete DWDM solution, InfoRR now has a highly available and reliable network that will allow it to offer its customers high-quality internet services,” says Argemiro Sousa, Padtec’s Chief Operations Officer for Equipment. He points out that, as a company that develops national technology and manufactures its equipment in Brazil, Padtec offers several financing options for the purchase of its products – among them, FINEP – Aquisição Inovadora Telecom, used by InfoRR and 4WNet.
