[Shanghai, China, June 26, 2024] During MWC Shanghai 2024, the F5.5G All-Optical Network Summit was successfully held with the theme of All-Optical 10Giga, Premium Transmission for Intelligence. The China Communications Standards Association (CCSA), China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Chile Entel, and UAE e& discussed the F5.5G industry development with Huawei, and shared innovative F5.5G practices such as all-optical 10Gbps and premium transmission for intelligence worldwide. The commercial construction of F5.5G gears up to embrace the imminent intelligent world.
F5.5G Standard Technology Collaboration, Bringing Three Leaps in Fixed Networks
In November 2023, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) released the F5.5G standard. Innovative technologies like 50G PON, Wi-Fi 7, FTTR+X, 400G, all-optical cross-connect (OXC), and Hybrid ASON have rapidly matured, showing that F5.5G is in extensive commercial use. Wen Ku, Director General of CCSA, said in his opening speech: “We will further promote the construction of premium transmission networks, reinforce computing with network connectivity, accelerate the construction of high-speed, intelligent, and green all-optical networks for cities, and provide 10Gbps ultra-broadband connections and deterministic experiences for households as well as micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises to access cloud and computing resources.”
Li Peng, Huawei’s Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales & Service, pointed out that “In the intelligent era, the optical industry is embracing new opportunities.” He expressed that accelerating the commercial use of F5.5G achieves three leaps. These include a leap beyond the usual limits of experience to stimulate intelligent applications through all-optical 10Gbps; the leap beyond connectivity boundaries to expand new services for homes and enterprises with ‘Connectivity+X’; and the leap beyond geographical limitations to connect and collaborate immense intelligent computing power.
Promoting Fast Network Evolution Towards F5.5G to Fully Embrace the Intelligent Era
At this event, Bob Chen, President of Huawei Optical Business Product Line, elaborated on the F5.5G target network and key product solutions, and shared successful F5.5G practices used by global carriers. He said: “Facing the intelligent era, carriers need an ‘All-Optical 10Giga + Premium Transmission for Intelligence’ network that supports ubiquitous 10Gbps, 1 ms latency, and 99.9999% availability to meet the intelligent application access and computing power interconnection requirements of individuals, homes, and enterprises.” In terms of architecture, networks can be built from three aspects:
First, the 3D-mesh backbone computing network. The 400G ultra-high speed and 3D mesh architecture achieves non-blocking bandwidth, and Hybrid ASON enables 99.9999% availability.
Second, the one-hop metro computing network. E2E OXC builds a 1 ms city latency circle to achieve low-latency computing access, and Alps-WDM and metro 100G continuously reduce computing costs.
Third, the 10Gbps intelligent access network. 50G PON supports 10Gbps access in all scenarios and ensures deterministic experiences through E2E slicing and intelligent traffic distribution.
Based on F5.5G all-optical 10Gbps and premium transmission products and solutions, Huawei has worked with global carriers to carry out innovative commercial practices and deployed 166 commercial sites. New services bring with them new revenue growth opportunities for carriers.
At the end of this event, all parties called on the entire industry to cooperate and innovate in applications and experience upgrades. In doing so, we can build a solid network foundation, continuously enrich F5.5G service scenarios, and accelerate F5.5G commercial use, thereby winning new opportunities in the intelligent era together.
MWC Shanghai 2024 will be held from June 26 to June 28 in Shanghai, China. During the event, Huawei will showcase its latest products and solutions at stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).
2024 will mark the first year of commercial 5.5G, and F5.5G gigabit optical network deployment has already begun. Synergies across networks, cloud, and intelligence are set to give rise to pervasive intelligent applications and increasingly diverse user experiences. Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, Huawei will dive into exciting topics at this year’s MWC Shanghai, like how to amplify 5G’s success in the 5.5G era and how to tap into the potential of operator revenue growth to bring us even faster to the intelligent world.
