Severe weather has caused impacts to our network in the greater Houston area. Through our recovery work, we’ve seen improvements in some of the hardest hit areas, including Harris County, where we’ve restored nearly half of affected cell sites since peak impact overnight. All of our major network facilities remain online, however some are currently running on a backup power source at this time. Where it is safe to do so, we have numerous crews working as hard and as quickly as possible to navigate storm damage in order to deploy and refuel generators until commercial power is restored. We’re also responding to limited wireless impacts in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Customers in affected areas may also be experiencing home phone and internet service interruptions due to storm damage and commercial power outages. Our wireline teams, with additional technicians from the region, are dispatching for repairs as power restoration and debris cleanup continues. We have one of the industry’s largest and most advanced disaster response programs to help keep communications running during times like these. Our Network Disaster Recovery team has established a local staging yard with portable generators that are being deployed where needed.

Our teams and FirstNet liaisons are in contact with federal, state, and local officials on our deployment efforts to support public safety and the communities impacted by the storm. So far, public safety – spanning state and local agencies – have made six FirstNet emergency support requests for this storm. These requests were made by local public safety to provide first responders with the dedicated connectivity they require to further support these critical emergency communications. FirstNet ROG continues to support public safety and FirstNet subscribers and is prepared to deploy additional assets as requested across the region.
