ASHBURN, VA (February 7, 2024) – The London Internet Exchange (LINX) is marking a significant milestone – 10 years of operation in Northern Virginia, a region at the heart of U.S. connectivity. This anniversary is being celebrated in a variety of ways, including a technology refresh in partnership with Nokia.
Launched in 2014, LINX Northern Virginia (NoVA) set out to build a neutral, multi-data center, interconnected platform for the U.S. internet community. A decade later, LINX NoVA continues to evolve into a hub of digital innovation and connectivity.
LINX NoVA is built out of the Ashburn region, the connectivity capital of the US. Providing networks connected there with low latency interconnection solutions, peering and more.
While the 10th anniversary is one of reflection, it also sets the stage for LINX NoVA’s vision for the next 10 years and beyond. The LINX NoVA network is undergoing a significant refresh, welcoming Nokia as the technical partner. The upgrade involves replacing legacy devices with Nokia’s advanced 7220 IXR routers running on SR Linux NOS. This move is pivotal in enhancing LINX NoVA’s capabilities, allowing the introduction of 400GE capacity to meet the increasing demands of connected members. This upgrade is a leap into the future, symbolizing LINX NoVA’s commitment to staying at the forefront of digital infrastructure development.
“Reflecting on a decade of growth and advancement in Northern Virginia, LINX is well-positioned for the future with this technology refresh,” said Richard Petrie, LINX Chief Technology Officer. “This partnership with Nokia is a comprehensive reimagining of our infrastructure, designed to meet the evolving demands of internet connectivity and to maintain our status as a leader in global IXP.”
Rodney Dellinger, CTO and Head of Architecture at Nokia commented;
“We are pleased to partner with LINX again as they refresh their network in Northern Virginia and continue to demonstrate their technical leadership in Internet Exchanges. This refresh is a testament of LINX’s trust in our family of advanced routers to meet their specific needs while also assuring a network that will adapt to unpredictable future demands. We look forward to helping LINX with the deployment of 400GE capacity to cope with the growing needs of its connected members.”
Other activities planned for the 10th anniversary include a birthday celebration to kick off at the North American Network Operators’ Group (NANOG) event taking place in Charlotte, NC next week. LINX will be hosting a networking social event prior to NANOG90 on Super Bowl Sunday, bringing the engineering community together to network and enjoy the sporting occasion and celebrate LINX NoVA’s anniversary.
The team at LINX thank their technical partners Nokia and also Diamond ConneXions Reseller partners Epsilon for supporting them in their 10th birthday celebrations.
LINX thrive on trusted and valuable partnerships to deliver a high level of service to their 950+ global member base, ensuring a robust, secure, and scalable network infrastructure. With the continued support of partners like Nokia and Epsilon, along with a commitment to technological excellence, LINX NoVA is poised to further enhance its position as a key player in the global internet exchange landscape.
LINX also will host a LinkedIn Live event in partnership with Nokia on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 10 a.m. ET. The event, Celebrating a Decade of Innovation: LINX and Nokia Unveil Vision for the Future, will be led by Petrie and co-presenter, Rodney Dellinger, Webscale CTO and Head of Architecture at Nokia. In the spirit of celebration, the event will highlight the partnership’s past achievements, as well as offer a comprehensive look at LINX NoVA’s technology overhaul, highlighting the strategic alliance with Nokia in leveraging cutting-edge tech for market adaptation and expansion.
