OCEANSIDE MAYOR JOINS SIFI NETWORKS TO LAUNCH BUILD-OUT OF CIRCA $120 MILLION OCEANSIDE FIBERCITY® PROJECT

City of Oceanside Will Have One of the Nation’s Fastest Open Access Fiber Networks to Deliver up to 10 Gbps, Among Fastest Speeds in U.S.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. – (Thursday, November 2, 2023) At a press conference this afternoon, officials from SiFi Networks and the City of Oceanside announced the official construction launch of the Oceanside FiberCity® project, a revolutionary fiberoptic infrastructure investment that aims to bring a fast, affordable, and reliable all-fiber internet network to homes, businesses, and institutions in the city. City of Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez and Marcus Bowman, Community Relations Manager, SiFi Networks explained that the circa $120 million project, which is being funded privately, aims to provide more than 70,000 households, businesses, and institutions with speeds up to 10 Gbps enabled (Gigabits per second)—eliminating buffering and internet slowdowns—among the fastest residential internet speeds available in the United States.

Notably, the Oceanside FiberCity® project will be an Open Access network, a successful model in other regions of the U.S. and across Europe. Open Access allows fiber infrastructure to be shared by multiple service providers, whether that be internet, wireless, or other services, thereby delivering the fastest speeds at the most competitive prices to the consumer. Like all SiFi Networks fiber builds in the U.S., the Oceanside FiberCity® project will be constructed at no cost or risk to taxpayers.

Marcus Bowman, Community Relations Manager, SiFi Networks commented: “The City of Oceanside is embarking on a vital infrastructure project that directly benefits its residents with crucially needed modern-day connectivity. SiFi Networks is here to make a real difference in Oceanside’s digital equity. We understand how fiber networks transform communities into hubs of innovation, remote work, better healthcare, and smart city services. With our innovative FiberCity® project, Oceanside will truly become a 21st century city,” he said.

Mayor Esther Sanchez, City of Oceanside commented: “One of Oceanside’s Digital Equity Plan priorities is for Oceanside residents, businesses, and institutions to have access to high-speed reliable internet services.  To that end, we’re excited that SiFi Networks has begun construction in Oceanside to install fiber optics to radically upgrade Oceanside’s internet infrastructure.  The project will not only deliver extraordinary internet speeds to Oceanside homes and businesses, but it will also be the backbone for economic development and will digitally sustain an Oceanside infrastructure footprint that closes the digital divide,” she said.

SiFi Networks’ construction partner, Motive Infrastructure, will build out the Oceanside FiberCity® to enable homes, businesses, and institutions throughout the city to connect to the high-speed fiber network. Oceanside FiberCity® and Motive will create dozens of new local jobs throughout the buildout and recruitment for the workforce is ongoing. Information on construction and events can be accessed by following Oceanside FiberCity® on social media and by visiting www.OceansideFiberCity.com.
