Espoo, Finland – Nokia Foundation has granted its 2023 recognition award to Professor Emeritus Antti Räisänen from Aalto University for his significant scientific achievements in advancing radio engineering research and his lifelong commitment to developing education in the field. Nokia Foundation granted the award to Räisänen at its 28th annual award ceremony this evening.

Over the past decades, Finland has built a global reputation as a frontrunner in radio technologies for telecommunications and other applications. Advancing scientific research and education is essential for Finland to stay at the forefront of ICT and digitalization in the future.

Hannu Kauppinen, Chair of the Board of Nokia Foundation, said: “Professor Emeritus Antti Räisänen has played a key role in the field of radio technology and science in Finland. As well as advancing radio engineering research and education, he has been instrumental in setting in motion collaboration between Finnish industry and academia, helping to lay the foundations for Finland’s world-class ICT sector. With this award, we want to show our appreciation for Professor Emeritus Räisänen’s impressive career and acknowledge him as one of the most prominent researchers in radio technology and science in Finland.”

For his groundbreaking work in the research of higher frequencies and other scientific achievements, Antti Räisänen has received the prestigious Fellow distinction of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a recognition that only a few people in Finland have been granted. During his academic career, Räisänen authored or coauthored more than 500 scientific or technical papers. He has been a committed teacher and throughout his career, supervised more than 50 doctoral degrees.

Professor Emeritus Antti Räisänen said: “Through my research and teaching, I hope to have inspired the next generations of radio engineering professionals, while also advancing scientific research in the field. I am very proud of all my students who have helped in further developing radio engineering in Finland, and it is a great honor to receive this recognition.”

Nokia Foundation has conferred 1,960 grants during its 28-year existence. In 2023, the Foundation will grant scholarships and awards totaling approximately 465,000 euros.
