SubCom Ramps Up Production and Marine Fulfillment Capabilities to Meet Current and Prospective Customer Needs for Digital Infrastructure

Continuous growth throughout the organization enables SubCom to focus on customer demands

Newington, NH, USASept. 21, 2023 – SubCom has announced the expansion of manufacturing capacity and marine installation capabilities to better provide the building blocks to meet customer demands. With recent and ongoing investments including improvements throughout SubCom’s operations, the purchase of two ships, and a workforce increase of more than 20 percent, the company is uniquely positioned to deliver best-value networks.

As more organizations seek to fulfill the insatiable demand for bandwidth, SubCom is most capable to provide highly efficient, reliable, technologically advanced solutions. To ensure ongoing availability, expertise, and global reach needed to address customer demand, SubCom has made upgrades in the following areas:

  • Manufacturing Operations:

o  SubCom is in the process of adding the following to its manufacturing operations for increased production and throughput:

  • 25 percent armoring line increase is complete
  • 50 percent increase in pier load lines are in progress for completion by early 2024
  • 25 percent additional power conductor lines will be complete in 2024

o  Added cutting-edge high fiber count (HFC) loose tube line.

o  Optimized cable assembly capabilities with new green and ergonomic digitally processed X-Ray cameras.

o  SubCom continues to improve upon its industry standard quality management, keeping the focus on meeting customer demands by tracking and improving leading performance indicators.

  • Marine Operations:

o  The M/V Endeavour was recently purchased to focus on cable transport and surface-lay activities, freeing time for SubCom’s existing Reliance Class fleet to concentrate on specialized work. The addition of Endeavour improves the company’s supply chain, reduces transit days for the Reliance Class fleet, and ensures cables and equipment are delivered to the market faster and more efficiently.

o  The newly-acquired vessel, Ocean Surveyor, has been outfitted with state-of-the-art survey equipment to ensure the highest quality results necessary for permitting and survey execution. SubCom can now directly perform marine route surveys, providing customers with more flexibility and enhanced control throughout this critical phase of deployment.

o  SubCom’s new forward deployment center in Subic Bay, Philippines will support its worldwide operations and serve as a logistical staging area for subsea cable projects. The expansion will enable the company to better serve its global customers and increase the operational efficiency of its cable ship fleet.

o  SubCom’s entire cable fleet now utilizes digitally processed X-ray cameras.

  • In Addition:

o  SubCom has continued to invest in infrastructure upgrades to its office space, including the addition of dozens of new business offices, and upgraded conference rooms/meetings spaces with state-of-the-art communication tech throughout the facility.

o  This year’s internship program brought 24 students from 17 colleges and universities, inspiring careers and bringing fresh perspective to SubCom employees.

o  SubCom experienced a 20 percent workforce increase over the last year, with ongoing hiring efforts still active.

“Nearly 70 years since its original founding, the technological, operational, and marine capabilities of SubCom have never been more advanced and our company is positioned as well as it has ever been to meet the existing and new demands of our customers with outstanding service and support,” said David Coughlan, CEO, SubCom. “As it has demonstrated on countless occasions on behalf of the world’s most data-dependent organizations, SubCom has the capacity and capabilities to quickly and efficiently transform any project vision into a reality.”
