CITYFIBRE MARKS 4 YEARS IN BOURNEMOUTH, CHRISTCHURCH AND POOLE AS NETWORK UPGRADE REACHES OVER 1,000KM

1 August 2023: Four years ago this week, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, started work to future-proof Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s (BCP’s) digital infrastructure with a full fibre rollout that’s now reached a staggering 1,043km – the approximate distance from Bournemouth to Barcelona.

The BCP area is among a growing number of locations in the UK to benefit from CityFibre’s nationwide full fibre rollout, which will enable faster and more reliable services for decades to come.

So far, homes and businesses in the Boscombe, Westbourne, Southbourne, Kinson, Talbot village, Turbary, East Howe, Wallisdown and Friars Cliff areas of the district can now connect to the new network and benefit from full fibre-enabled broadband from a choice of providers. This includes parts of Branksome and Canford Heath.

Work is also ongoing in the Bearwood, Alderney, New Milton and Broadstone areas, meaning more addresses are being given the chance to upgrade every day. The full rollout across the BCP area is more than halfway towards completion.

Adrian Smith, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, said: “We’re really pleased with the progress made on our network roll out in the last four years and it’s brilliant to hear from so many local residents and businesses now accessing lightning-fast broadband as a result. To think our fibre could now stretch from Bournemouth’s beach to Barcelona’s paints a picture of how far we’ve come!

“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience and support over the last few years, and we look forward to more people benefitting from our network.”

Locally, the rollout is being completed by CityFibre’s build partner, CCN Communications. The team is working closely with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council to ensure any disruption is managed safely and efficiently.

In the BCP area, customers can sign up to UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet and Zen, with other providers also available.

People interested in upgrading their home’s digital connection to full fibre can find out more about the build, pre-register their interest and ensure they are updated on service availability at www.cityfibre.com/PR
