FIRST HOMES IN HAMPSHIRE, DORSET AND WILTSHIRE COMMUNITIES NOW ABLE TO CONNECT TO NEW GIGANET NETWORK

  • Network installation has been completed in the first areas of Eastleigh, Totton, Tadley, Fawley, Wimborne, Ferndown, Marlborough and Devizes
  • Homes in completed areas can now benefit from significantly faster and more reliable internet services – with the first three months free
  • The work forms part of Giganet’s £250 million investment in new digital infrastructure across the South
  • Just over 50% of UK homes can currently benefit from full fibre connectivity

18 July 2023: The first homes and businesses in communities in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire can now access faster and more reliable broadband services after Giganet, one of the UK’s fastest growing internet service providers (ISP), completed the first areas of its new full fibre network rollout.

Hampshire residents including those of Huntsmoor Road in Tadley, Tides Way in Totton, Underwood Road in Eastleigh and Southbourne Avenue in Fawley can now enjoy buffer-free 4K movie streaming, crystal-clear video chats, seamless multiplayer gaming, and streamlined support for multiple devices simultaneously connected to the network.

In Wiltshire, residents in Rabley Wood View in Marlborough and Longcroft Road in Devizes can now log on to full fibre services. Meanwhile in Dorset, homes in Cutlers Place in Wimborne and Coppice Avenue in Ferndown have also been connected.

The work forms part of Giganet’s wider UK rollout – a £250 million project to connect homes across the South to full fibre services – and will bring new and better broadband infrastructure to homes in areas which have so far not been reached by other major providers. The build programme also supports the Government’s plans for 85% of UK premises to have access to gigabit-capable broadband by 2025.

As the most reliable and future-proof form of gigabit-capable broadband, full fibre brings lightning-fast fibre connections right to people’s homes. The newly connected homes in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire are all ahead of the curve, with just over half of UK households having access to full fibre.

The ISP, which scooped the coveted award for Overall Fibre Provider of the Year at the 2022 Fibre Provider Awards, has been working hand in hand with local authorities and community groups to provide residents with the most up-to-date information on the status of the build and any potential roadworks.

Tristan Tavernier, Head of Design Network Build at Giganet, said: “We’re a year into the build programme and it’s an exciting prospect that we’re now beginning to allow smaller communities to log on to hyper-fast broadband and not feel like they’ve been left behind.

“At every step we’ve tried to communicate disruption as best we can and follow our mantra of being honest and transparent. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re firmly on track to meet our 2024 target.”

New customers in the areas can save money on their annual broadband bill by getting their first three months free with Giganet. They can also switch with peace of mind, knowing that there are no early exit fees or in-contract price increases to worry about.
