London/Budapest/Sofia – May 16, 2023 – RETN, a leading international network services provider, announced today that it has completed the second phase of its Budapest to Sofia ring, achieving 100% network diversity from Budapest to Sofia via Romania. The new route, Budapest BIX – Timisoara – Sofia Equinix SO2, spans a total distance of 1080 kilometres and compliments the first phase Budapest Dataplex – Belgrade – Sofia Telepoint, which was announced in October last year.
Both routes terminate in different datacentres at both ends, with BIX and Dataplex in Budapest and Equinix and Telepoint in Sofia. RETN is utilising the latest generation of Infinera equipment for both line and transponders, and has also upgraded its IP/MPLS equipment at Belgrade and Sofia with Juniper’s MX10008, offering quicker delivery times and bandwidths up to 400G across all RETN services.
The diversity of routes enables RETN to provision new capacity for customers at a rapid pace using instant bandwidth hardware, long-distance circuits to other regions without regeneration in Budapest, and protects services in the event of fibre cuts using the latest technology.
Tony O’Sullivan, CEO of RETN said, “By completing this new route, RETN is offering the latest generation Layer 1 capacity services, including 400G, to customers with high-availability and 100% diverse fibre routes. This will greatly benefit organisations and enterprises in the region, allowing them to expand their operations and grow their businesses with the assurance of high-quality network services. RETN is committed to continuing to provide innovative solutions to support its customers’ digital transformation journeys.”
