Nokia selected by Telecentro Argentina for network transformation

  • Nokia will play a key role in modernizing Telecentro’s network, which includes supplying a new IP network for core, edge and peering along with its DDoS protection and analytics for the entire network.
  • The capacity upgrade will make Telecentro’s network future-ready for ultrabroadband services such as video streaming, online gaming and metaverse technologies.

25 April 2023
Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced it has been selected by Telecentro Argentina for the operator’s network transformation, providing the traffic capacity growth needed for future services and subscriber base growth along with network protection capabilities against DDoS threats and attacks.

Telecentro will deploy Nokia’s IP solutions, enabling a network that combines highly scalable capacity with unmatched performance, security, and lower energy consumption. This includes Nokia’s 7750 Service Router (SR) platform, which is powered by its ground-breaking FP5 routing silicon, and its 7250 interconnect routers (IXR) for broadband aggregation. The FP5, a key part of Telecentro’s selection of Nokia, is a significant enabler for building higher-capacity IP networks that are more energy efficient. The FP5’s future-ready 800GE capability will also accelerate Telecentro’s ability to meet future traffic growth sustainably and at lower cost.

Telecentro will also deploy Deepfield Defender, Nokia’s DDoS security solution. Using big data analytics along with Deepfield Secure Genome,™ its proprietary security intelligence feed, Deepfield Defender provides a holistic perspective on DDoS attacks across the entire network, accurately detecting them as they happen for the highest levels of protection and mitigation. The Deepfield Cloud Intelligence solution will also be deployed, which will give Telecentro cost-effective, real-time and actionable insight into all its network flows by optimizing Telecentro’s network infrastructure and resources.

Juan Luna, CTIO, Telecentro Argentina said: “We selected Nokia because of the performance and capabilities of the 7750 SR family with the new FP5 network processor. This will enable Telecentro to continue its innovation vision and provide the network capacity needed to meet growing access and interconnection demands. This strategic project implies an extensive 100 percent 400GE deployment, the first one in the Latin American region. In addition, the comprehensive blend of Deepfield will provide inline protection from DDoS attacks and a complete view of the behavior of the traffic in our network, serving a B2C and B2B ever-demanding market.”

Fernando Sosa, Market Unit Head for Southern Cone at Nokia, said: “This network transformation will allow Telecentro to meet the increasing demand for ultrabroadband services throughout Argentina. We will be providing a state-of-the-art infrastructure more than capable to meet today’s demands and is ready for the future. We appreciate Telecentro’s confidence in Nokia and our solutions and look forward to this exciting deployment and our continued partnership with them.”

The network deployment also includes use of Nokia’s 1830 PSS-8 (Photonic Service Switch). The PSS-8 is part of Nokia’s family of DWDM multiservice, multilayer packet optical transport network (P-OTN) platforms that provide efficient optical transport at any scale, from compact access to the converged OTN/DWDM core.
