Nxtra by Airtel begins construction on the largest data centre in East India

600 Cr Hyper-scale facility to support the growing digital demands of East India and SAARC  
1. 25 MW data centre to be operational by 2024; 
2. In line with Nxtra’s commitment to the environment and sustainability, Kolkata facility will also operate with a maximum share of green energy.  
 
Kolkata, November 22, 2022: Nxtra Data Limited (“Nxtra by Airtel”), a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel (Airtel) today announced that it broke ground for its new hyper-scale data centre in Kolkata. Nxtra by Airtel will invest Rs 600 Cr to create the largest data centre in East India, which will serve the underserved market in India’s east, north-east and SAARC region, supporting the growing needs of enterprises and global cloud players.
The 25 MW facility in Kolkata at New Town will be operational by 2024 and will be a green facility, sourcing clean energy for its operations since its inception. Once ready, it will be Nxtra’s 1st large-scale facility in east India in addition to its already existing 12 large and 120 edge facilities across India, further cementing Nxtra’s position as the nation’s largest network of data centres.

Nxtra by Airtel will invest over Rs 5000 cr over the next four years to expand its capacity by 3X to over 400 MW. The company has already invested and partnered with eight organisations to develop renewable energy power plants across India to source more than 180,000 MWh of renewable energy. Nxtra has the ambition to reach net zero by 2031.
