In the keynote speech “Exploring the Intelligent World”, Christophe Batiard, Network Deputy Director for Huawei Western Europe, co-staged with Morane Rey-Huet, CEO & Founder of Meersens, discussed the industry trends in the Zettabyte Era and explored how data can help overcome challenges, especially on environment and health issues.

Various Initiatives to Nurture Digital Talents

In the keynote session, “Cultivating and Retaining Talent for a Sustainable World”, Lesley White, Deputy VP of Huawei Western European Region Human Resource Department, unveiled Huawei’s vision to develop digital talents in Europe through various scholarships, technology competitions, and digital skills training.

For example, “Seeds for the Future” is an initiative to bridge the digital divide in Europe and develop top digital talent. The ICT Academy, on the other hand, aims to build a talent ecosystem for the ICT industry by fostering collaboration between companies and academics. Universities and colleges worldwide can provide students with industry-recognized Huawei certification courses. Additionally, the “Huawei Student Developer” program helps student developers by running over 110 code labs with enriching courses and activities in over 60 universities across the EU. Huawei also offers Graduate Cultivation Program for fresh graduates, where young talents can receive six-month training from experts on new employee orientation, on-the-job training, mentorship and on-site training.

During the DigitALL Night event, students were invited to present their sustainable projects in Huawei’s student competitions (Huawei ICT competition, AppsUp, and TechArena). The Seeds for the Future alumni hosted a panel discussion on “Green and Technology”, inspiring their peers to explore how the young generation can involve themselves in technology innovation to develop a green and sustainable world.

“It was important for me to find an opportunity to bring me knowledge in everything related to technology. With the programs TalentsNumeriques and Huawei, we had the chance to understand technology better,” said Sara Dsouki, a French alumni of Seeds for the Future.

Huawei plans to hire 2,000 new talents in Europe over the next three years and therefore aims to contribute to their professional and personal development through a range of specially designed programs and activities for young talent. From 2022 to 2026, Huawei will invest $150 million in talent development globally and plans to train 500,000 ICT talents in Europe.

Huawei ICT Competition in Western Europe

Lesley White launched the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-23 for Western Europe, encouraging students to participate in this prestigious global event. The global competition will attract over 150,000 students from 85 countries worldwide to compete in four tracks: Network, Cloud, Computing and Innovation. It’s a platform for young people to showcase their talent and start their careers in the ICT sector. Last year’s winners from the Innovation Track from the UK shared their experience and innovative concept on smart technologies.
