Borealis acquires Reykjavík DC

Borealis Data Center announces the acquisition of all shares in Reykjavik DC (RDC) from Íslandsbanki. The RDC data center is one of the most technologically advanced data centers in Iceland covering up to 7.000 square meters when fully developed.

With the addition Borealis will operate three data center locations in Iceland, in the northern part of the country in Blönduós, at Fitjar in Reykjanesbær, and now in the capital city of Reykjavík and is increasing its capacity to over 60MW available for its clients, while offering a wider range of data center solutions.

Borealis builds and operates efficient, low PUE, data centers using renewable and green energy. Borealis focuses on sustainable data center services for its clients and in particular clients that actively seek to reduce their carbon footprint.

Reykjavík DC was designed to fulfill the stringent security and redundancy requirements that come with hosting core banking and clearing systems.

“Reykjavík DC is a secure data center designed according to the highest standards to accommodate systems with high uptime requirements. This well-equipped data center is certainly a valuable addition to Borealis portfolio and we look forward to working with our customers in this new, world-class, sustainable data center in Reykjavík.” Said Björn Brynjúlfsson, CEO of Borealis Data Center.

Data centers are a growing industry in Iceland with considerable buildup in recent years influencing the value chain of the economy in Iceland.

Last year the French investment management company Vauban Infrastructure Partners acquired a majority stake in Borealis Data Center. As a long-term investor, Vauban aims to invest in digital infrastructure assets that provide essential services to communities while ensuring the sustainability of those investments.
