[Cancun, Mexico, June 24, 2022] GSMA Intelligence, ITU, and Huawei jointly held the “Intelligent Premium Network, Connecting Digital LATAM” summit today as part of the LATAM ICT Congress 2022. In his opening speech at the event, Bob Cai, President of Huawei’s Latin America Carrier Business, described the advantages of digital fiber from two perspectives.
First, from a technical perspective, digital fiber is able to use innovative solutions such as the intelligent network planning algorithms, QuickConnect ODN, and optical iris to identify faults in minutes, implement digital O&M, improve deployment efficiency by 70%, and improve network planning efficiency by 10 times over.
Second, from a business perspective, digital fiber is suited for multiple application scenarios, including home, enterprise, and cloud. For homes, digital fiber applications can be seen in fiber to the room (FTTR) and intelligent home network (PremiumWi-Fi) solutions that deliver high-quality home broadband networks and intelligent management to end users. The enterprise applications of digital fiber include differentiated premium private lines that help enterprises achieve digital transformation. Together with cloud, digital fiber is able to provide enterprises with premium cloud experiences, facilitating quick cloud migration, multi-cloud connection, and differentiated network assurance.
Representatives from other leading operators and industry organizations also spoke on network connectivity at today’s event. Speakers from Brazil’s Oi, Mexico’s Totalplay, and Telecom Argentina shared their own visions and experiences in fixed network construction and improving end-user network experience. Latif Ladid, the chairman of the ETSI IPv6 Alliance, also called on Latin America to accelerate IPv6 deployment and increase collaboration across the IP industry to promote IPv6 Enhanced technologies and business innovations.
At the end of this summit, the CMO of Huawei’s Fixed Network business William Yue launched the company’s new FIBRA solution which is designed specifically to help major carriers in the Latin American market grow using digital fiber and Huawei’s innovative technologies. This solution name is an acronym for the five main technologies it uses: Fusion Multi-Service Networks, Intelligent Fiber, Bandwidth Evolvable Networks, Reliable SLA Networks, and Autonomous Driving Networks.
Yue said, “FIBRA is not just a future-oriented network solution. It will also work with ETSI F5G and IPE to promote the development of the fixed network industry. Huawei is fully convinced that the FIBRA can help operators achieve business success.”
Huawei has stated that broader goals for the Latin American market remain to work with industry partners to define new standards for digital fiber, and “bring digital fiber to every home, every enterprise, for the All-Cloud Era and a brighter, better connected digital LATAM!”
