Huawei 5Green Solutions Win GTI ‘Innovative Breakthrough in Mobile Technology Award’ and ‘Outstanding Award’

[Barcelona, Spain, March 1, 2022] Huawei 5Green Solutions were recognized twice at the MWC22 Barcelona, winning the GTI ‘Innovative Breakthrough in Mobile Technology Award’ and ‘Outstanding Award’, a testament to Huawei’s substantial contributions to technological innovation and sustainable development in its efforts to promote customer benefits.

Huawei launched 5Green in an effort to help operators cope with increasing demand for traffic among individuals and enterprises, as more radio access technologies (RATs), frequency bands, and sites are being deployed. 5Green consists of two solutions: GreenSite and PowerStar; it helps ensure that operators can optimize network experience while boosting energy efficiency, containing multi-dimensional metrics that measure energy efficiency.

These energy efficiency evaluation metrics cover capacity, coverage, and experience, among other aspects, so as to guide 5G network construction toward more eco- and user-friendly models.

GreenSite, as the name implies, aims to assist operators with building green sites, by harnessing the full potential of innovative base station hardware and site networking. In terms of base station hardware, GreenSite provides MetaAAU, which is designed with an innovative extremely large antenna array (ELAA) that features 384 elements, two times that of common AAUs. MetaAAU can reduce site power consumption while improving network performance. With regard to site networking, GreenSite adopts a centralized radio access network (C-RAN) architecture, which allows for the centralized placement of baseband units. This reduces the amount of required equipment rooms and air conditioners, which in turn slashes power consumption.

The PowerStar energy saving solution infuses multi-band and multi-RAT networks with intelligence, to maximize energy efficiency while maintaining a premium user experience. In typical network configurations, PowerStar helps operators decrease network power consumption by more than 25%.

Aaron Jiang, President of Huawei’s SingleRAN Product Line, noted the significance of the company’s achievements at MWC 2022, stating: “Winning two prestigious GTI Awards indicates the widespread acclaim within the industry for Huawei’s energy saving technologies for wireless base stations, as well as their business value. Huawei will continue to pursue customer-centric innovation that will benefit the industry at large, and make it easier for operators to build high-performance, energy-efficient 5G networks.”

Huawei supports operators’ green development strategies through comprehensive solutions that integrate green site, green network, and green operation, enabling operators to continuously increase network capacity at lower energy consumption per bit. We empower green and sustainable development through More Bits, Less Watts.

GTI is an open platform designed to help global telecom operators explore and promote new communications technologies. The GTI Summit 2022, under the theme “5G and Decarbonization”, will detail recent progress in developing carbon neutral 5G solutions, while showcasing game changing new technologies. The GTI Awards recognize outstanding achievements in 4G evolution and 5G development across a broad range of industries.

MWC22 Barcelona runs from February 28 to March 3 in Barcelona, Spain. Huawei showcases its products and solutions at stand 1H50 in Fira Gran Via Hall 1. Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, we dive into topics such as industry trends, GUIDE to the Future, and green development to envision the future of digital networks.
